Amy Pascal has officially been fired from her position as co-chairman of Sony Pictures, but she’s been given a production company on the Sony lot as compensation. Of course, Amy can’t go around bad-mouthing Sony, but during the Women in the World conference held in San Francisco this week, she definitely opened up about her experience through the now-infamous hacking scandal.
She revealed the pervasive confusion and fear behind-the-scenes at Sony, and how everybody was worried about the emails getting hacked – and of course, the emails did get hacked. Although there were many, MANY people involved in the email scandal, perhaps the biggest name to get thrown around was Angelina Jolie. For anyone who needs a quick recap on the situation, Amy Pascal and Scott Rudin were trying to get their Steve Jobs biopic off the ground, and they wanted David Fincher as their director. However, that would have necessitated David Fincher dropping out of Angelina’s long-gestating Cleopatra movie. The email chain was basically Scott Rudin dissing Angelina and her movie, and Amy trying to be as impartial as possible, given the circumstances.
And even though Angelina Jolie was called a ‘minimally talented spoiled brat’ in the email thread, Amy Pascal claims that Angelina was not affected by it. She explained, “The first person I talked to was Angie after that email… Angie didn’t care. Everybody understood because we all live in this weird thing called Hollywood. If we all actually were nice, it wouldn’t work.” If you believe this you are stupid. This is nothing but wishful thinking on Amy’s part. Of course Angie cared and you can be sure she will never forgive.
Isn’t that sad, that everyone ‘understood’ that Hollywood is such a back-stabbing, screwed-up place to exist? Hopefully, the one thing that this hacking scandal has done is to force everyone to be a little nicer and a little more respectful to other people, especially when their comments are going to be via email.
