Bill Cosby Charged With Felony Sexual Assault in Andrea Constand Case: Faces 10 Years in Prison, Arrest Warrant Issued

Bill Cosby has been charged with felony aggravated indecent assault of Andrea Constand. An arrest warrant has been issued. An arraignment will take place this afternoon, Wednesday, December 30, 2015. Cosby faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

These first criminal charges have been brought against the 78-year-old comedian and philanthropist stemming from a 2004 alleged assault on Temple University employee Andrea Constand. The woman has accused Cosby of plying her with pills and wine then engaging non-consensual digital penetration

The Montgomery County District Attorney-elect Kevin Steele issued this statement, “[Andrea] was frozen, paralyzed, unable to move,” regarding the charges. During the press conference Steele said, “”A prosecutor’s job is to follow the evidence wherever it leads and whenever it comes to light. Upon examination of all the evidence, today we are able to seek justice on behalf of the victim.”

Montgomery County District Attorney-elect Kevin Steele also stated that,” [Mr. Cosby] made two sexual advances at her that were rejected. Mr. Cosby urged her to take pills and to drink wine, the effect of which left her unable to [rebuff his advances].”

Cosby’s arraignment on the felony sexual assault charges is expected to take place immediately in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania. Prosecutors were prompted to reopen the case after the release of a deposition last summer from a 2005 civil suit filed by Constand.

A decade ago Bill Cosby admitted under oath to sexual contact with Constand. Now that criminal charges have been filed the sexual assault case against Cosby’s may be the biggest and most scandalous of all celebrity Hollywood criminal trials, after OJ Simpson’s, of course.

Andrea Constand was not available for comment regarding the charges – she is now a massage therapist in Ontario, Canada. Dolores Troiani released a statement on Andrea Constand’s behalf. “Obviously we appreciate the expression of confidence in her.” Troiani hopes that justice will be served now that Bill Cosby has been formally criminally charged in the sexual assault case.
