The news that Bobbi Kristina Brown, 21, was found unconscious face down in her bathtub after a suspected drug overdose in what looks like a suicide attempt has many wondering if this tragedy could have been prevented. Bobbi Kristina Brown was discovered face down in her tub by her husband, Nick Gordon, and a friend at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. She was given CPR and taken to North Fulton hospital. She’s now in a medically-induced coma fighting for her life as doctors wait for the swelling of her brain to reduce.
While the incident remains under investigation, police executed a search warrant at her Georgia home after drugs were apparently found in her system. Brown’s mother, the late Whitney Houston, died after a drug overdose nearly three years ago at the age of 48. The similarities between the conditions surrounding Houston’s death and Brown’s recent scare are uncanny and certainly indicate intent on Bobbi Kristina’s part and therefore a suicide attempt can’t ruled out and must be considered. Both women were found lifeless in bathtubs and both had lifelong struggles with drug addiction that led them there.
Brown is alive but in grave condition and close to death – she’s not out of the woods yet. Bobbi Kristina Brown remains in the ICU and it’s not yet known whether she’ll have any higher brain function left or even if she will be able to live off of life support. Brown had a tumultuous past as she dealt with her parents’ messy divorce and life in the public eye. She had a close bond with her mother and Whitney Houston’s drug overdose death undoubtedly has an impact on her as well. Brown had a brief stint in Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after feeling overwhelmed by her grief. At age 18, she participated in a Lifetime reality show and her erratic behavior raised suspicions of underage drinking and drugging as she often appeared to be intoxicated.
Houston’s official cause of death was listed as drowning, but heart disease and cocaine use were listed as contributing factors. It’s possible that Brown has followed in the footsteps of her mother and has been silently struggling with substance abuse. We can only hope that this incident was purely accidental on her part. If she recovers, she’ll need the support of loved ones to get her life under control. Perhaps a near drug overdose will be a wake-up call to both Brown and those around her.
What do you think about the similarities between Whitney Houston’s death and Bobbi Kristina Brown’s recent incident? Is it a coincidence or something more? If Brown makes a recovery, what do you think it will take for her to start fresh? Will a near-death experience be enough to scare her straight or is she destined to end up like her mother?
