Bobbi Kristina Brown is still fighting for her life after being found unresponsive in her bathtub on January 31, but the constant fight over what to do with Bobbi Kristina has certainly caused a divide in the family. The devastating situation is causing a great amount of stress on Bobbi Kristina Brown’s family, her dad Booby Brown on one side and the Houstons, headed by Cissy Houston and Pat Houston, on the other side. Bobby Brown has made it clear he believes his daughter will recover whereas Cissy Houston has said she is prepared for Bobbi to die. One issue the relatives are squabbling over is of course the amount of care Bobbi should receive and payment of cost of racking up large medical bills.
Bobbi Kristina Brown, 22, was rushed to the hospital on January 31 in Roswell, Georgia, and was later moved to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. After that, Bobbi Kristina was allegedly transferred to a medical rehabilitation facility in March.
TheWrap spoke with Paul Hughes-Cromwick, a senior health economist at the Center for Sustainable Health Spending at the Altarum Institute, about how much money it is really going to cost the Brown family to pay off all of these medical bills.
Hughes-Cromwick stated that it is not cut and dry, but it was possible to estimate Bobbi Kristina’s bills. Without knowing Bobbi Kristina’s health insurance plan, Hughes-Cromwick broke down few scenarios.
Hughes-Cromwick says that Bobbi Kristina Brown’s cost will be much higher than the average day rate of a hospital, which he said would be between $1,000 and $2,000.
Now, depending on Bobbi Kristina Brown’s insurance, the family would not have to pay the entire bill. However, with such an extensive stay, an insurance company is likely to reach an agreement with the hospital regarding how much they will cover.
The tricky part comes into play because the family is famous. “It could be the case where they have to pay full charges just because they’re famous and they’re supposed to have a lot of money. And maybe they don’t have an insurance plan that has done this kind of negotiating with the provider,” says Hughes-Cromwick. So basically, if Bobbi Kristina does not have a good insurance team, they could completely lose this case and have to pay the majority, if not all of the bills.
Just how much does everything add up to? Well, to Hughes-Cromwick’s best ability he gave an estimated figure of Bobbi Kristina’s stay at the rehab center and said that as of now, it would have a price tag of about $165,000 after an 11 week stay. Wow! We sure hope that the family is planning on paying those bills instead of worrying about who is going to get Bobbi Kristina Brown’s $20 million inheritance if she passes away.
Do you think Bobby Brown and Cissy Houston are worried about paying the hospital bills, or are they more worried about doing the best they can for Bobbi Kristina. Let us know in the comments below.
