Caitlyn Jenner is the talk of the Hollywood town. In fact, she’s the talk of the decade. Caitlyn is popping up everywhere: The Abbey, ESPY Awards, Twitter, Chuck E. Cheese’s, etc. Every single day it’s either, “Caitlyn did this” or “Caitlyn wore that” or “Caitlyn is dancing with Gary Busey’s fifteenth personality”. It never abates. Why should it though? Caitlyn wears her fabulosity (not a word) like vintage Versace: cautiously eloquent.
On Saturday, Caitlyn danced footloose with transgender actress Candis Cayne at The Abbey, one of West Hollywood’s most popular gay bars. The paparazzi did a mighty fine job at capturing Caitlyn’s faux-aloofness when she left The Abbey in the wee hours of Sunday morning. Dressed to always impress, the impeccable Caitlyn wore a black leather mini-skirt with a low-cut, long-sleeve wraparound dress. Or in non-fashion terms: A Little Black Number.
However, a Jenner/Kardashian knows the lay of the social media land – some say a Kardashian can spot an innocent bystander (read: eyewitness) from space. They know how to receive maximum coverage in the least amount of time. Caitlyn’s clubbing stint is the latest in a long line of meticulously designed public appearances. Caitlyn Jenner is like a protagonist living in an antagonistic world; nothing she says or does will make a difference to the unforgiving planet and its wild inhabitants.
But visibility doesn’t always equal popularity. Sometimes the Kardashians need a little push, whether it’s from an agent, a publicist, John Travolta or an innocent bystander with a new iPhone and a trigger-happy Instagram account.
Caitlyn Jenner went ‘hashtag’ the moment she arrived at the club. A fellow clubber tweeted, “Me? Oh nothing just hanging out at the Abbey and @Caitlyn_Jenner just showed all of us ladies up. #gorgeous #love #weho #free #LA.” An Instagrammer (not a word) wrote, “Ok so like I don’t really care about celebrities but Caitlyn Jenner just gave me a hug at the abbey!!”
Good for you, human. Caitlyn’s hugs don’t come cheap – her going rate is one million retweets per second. #SorryNotSorry.
What do you think? Was Caitlyn’s trip to The Abbey an innocent soiree? Or did she do it for publicity? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
