Celine Dion took a long break from both her career and her Las Vegas residency to take care of her dying husband, Rene Angelil. Although she is returning to the stage in the fall, sources tell us that it’s not because Rene is doing any better – in fact, it’s actually because they don’t expect Rene to last much longer and his last wishes are for Celine to relaunch her career.
It might seem like a strange request from a dying husband to his beloved wife, but you have to remember that Rene was also Celine’s manager since she was a young girl. To him, her career matters more than anything else, and it’s probably on his insistence that she even decided to return to Las Vegas in the first place.
Celine Dion has already announced that she will perform at the Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas on August 27th, but she’ll be doing it for her husband – she’s actually publicly stated that she’s doing it both for her fans and for her husband. His last wishes are to see her back on that stage and to see her take back her career, and despite the fact that he’s dying of cancer, she seems intent on honoring those wishes.
Now, Rene Angelil did step down as her manager last June, and Celine’s even stated, “I am scared of losing him because it’s bad. But I have to show myself, my husband and my kids that I’m strong, and we’re okay.”
Then again, there’s little she can do except take care of him, stay by his side, and hope for the best. She’s worth more than $700 million, so she knows that she’s buying the best care in the world for him. Now, it’s really up to the doctors, to Rene, and fate…
