Tonight on Lifetime Abby Lee Miller’s Dance Moms continues with an all new Tuesday June 30 season 5 episode 25 called, “Abby vs. Kira” and we have your weekly recap below. On tonight’s episode, the moms push Abby for more dance classes after losing two competitions in a row. When Abby refuses to take responsibility for the girls’ lack of training, Kira takes matters into her own hands and brings in outside help, infuriating Abby.
On the last episode the ALDC’s biggest west coast rival, MDP, was back and Abby wanted to put her best foot forward at competition. After Mackenzie’s huge win against her big sis Maddie, Abby tested her confidence with a big opportunity—was she able to handle it? Meanwhile, JoJo’s sick grandmother was visiting LA and Jess was desperate for JoJo to have a featured role. RECAP:
#DanceMoms starts in LA at ALDC LA – the new studio – where they’re doing pyramid. Jill is excited to see how the studio is coming along. Abby brings the girls and moms inside to look around. Abby says she’s been told they will be in the studio in three weeks. Jess thinks this won’t happen and says there is no progress yet it’s taking up all of Abby’s time and focus. Abby says the kids at the competition needs to see their team win so they bring their kids to ALDC LA but rants that they came in 2nd. Holly says they have lost two weeks in a row and people are doubting them.
Abby says Mackenzie will be filming a new Nickelodeon show this week. Melissa says she hopes Abby will still let her do something at competition. Abby says Mackenzie is the last first place winner they had. Abby says there’s only so many times she can tell them what’s wrong. Jill blames it on a lack of muscle memory and says they don’t get enough class time in LA. Jill says Abby has no teachers in LA to work with them. Holly agrees. Abby says fine, no more meetings or auditions and they can do class, class, class. Holly says they need a balance.
Abby says if they want to be students, they can wait til they’re 18 to audition. Abby says it’s BS and says the girls know how to improve their skills. Abby says she’s not a babysitting service. Kendall is at the bottom of the pyramid and Abby says she crashed and burned. Abby has JoJo next for not doing well on her turns. Mackenzie is next. Abby says she did have a big win beating Maddie and got cast in a new TV show while Maddie is in the studio. Maddie says she’s happy for her and Abby asks if there’s any jealousy.
Maddie says they fight all the time but not about that kind of stuff. Next is Nia and Abby says she was good in the group dance and so was Kalani. At the top is Maddie and Abby says she stepped into the lead role of the group dance when Abby took it from her sister and says she acted with maturity. The next competition is Believe and there will be live critiques after they dance. There are three solos – Abby gives one to Kendall named Burn. Next goes to Nia and it’s called Can I Do This? Abby says it’s a blue number. The last one goes to Maddie and it’s called Loose Cannon.
Abby says she came in second to Mackenzie and she wants to see if Maddie can do better than second. Abby says the group routine is a 50s inspired theater piece called Dance Bop. She tells them to head to rehearsal with her and sends them to grab their stuff. They go over to 3rd Street Dance. Abby starts the group rehearsal and Abby says dancers have to learn all the fab dances all through history. She says 50s dances were all celebratory. Holly says the girls are good at picking up choreography, but they still need training. Kira says Kalani doesn’t want to sing – she just wants to dance.
Kira says other dancers are passing them up because their girls aren’t training. Jess asks why Kira can’t be in charge of their dance class schedule. Kira suggests bringing Tessandra in to “visit” and says maybe Abby will let her do some regular dance sessions with the girls. She calls her and Kira says she is a big deal in LA and has worked on a lot of big talent shows like American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance. Kira calls Tessandra and asks if she could come in tomorrow and see the girls and maybe do a couple of classes with them. Tessandra says she’d love to.
Kira says since she’s worked with Abby already, it’s perfect. Abby comes and tells the moms she’s leaving for the day to pick out carpet for her new studio. Kira says they shouldn’t tell Abby that Tessandra is coming and just let her come. Melissa says Abby will flip out and doesn’t like surprises. Kira says enough’s enough and they need rehearsal time. Abby then works with the soloists and says she only wants first place winners and says Maddie failed for losing to Mackenzie. Jill says Abby has too much on her mind and says even Maddie is on a losing streak.
Abby asks them if they’re sitting on their yoga balls every morning. She yells at them and Maddie tears up. Abby says don’t embarrass me. Melissa is furious and Jill says to go tell Abby that. Melissa says Abby will tell her she’s stupid and Holly says she doesn’t have enough backbone to stand up to Abby. Then Abby calls Maddie over to work with her and she starts her rehearsal. Abby says ugh. She says she’s rushing then says she’s wrong. Abby says she’s a mess. Jill says her laying into Maddie proves they need more classes if they want to break the losing streak.
Nia is up next and she does her rehearsal. Abby says the last time Nia had a solo, she was in 5th and now she’s a budding pop star. Abby says she shouldn’t be in 5th and should be in first every time. Abby tells Nia the top five is no longer could enough. Jill says Nia can’t win awards if she’s not training. Holly asks how many opportunities has Abby really created for them. Holly says they have no classes, no studio and no opportunities. Kendall is next. Abby says it’s a hot mess and her knee is bent and she has a lack of turn out and flexibility.
Abby says they gave Kendall the tools and it’s up to her to use them. Abby yells at them and says it’s offensive to her. Kira says they need to get more classes and can help Abby out since she doesn’t have time to do it all. Jill says they need to go in there and do something about it. They go ask Abby for classes on Friday or Monday. Abby says if they want more classes, they can break their contract, go to hell and take a class. Holly says she’s throwing a tantrum. Abby then says she’ll do a class and has Gianna work with them.
Abby screams and asks why their kids can’t work on their own and says they’re lazy. Jill says they haven’t had a stretch class and need to do it every day. Kendall is crying and Abby asks doesn’t she want her kid to be better. Abby tells Kendall she’s done for the day. Kendall yells at her mom to please stop and Jill yells and says it’s not about her. Abby says when they were shooting her music video they should have been in class instead. Kira says Abby won’t listen and they have sacrificed so much to be in LA. Kira says she won’t let anyone ruin Kalani’s dream to be a professional dancer.
Melissa talks to Maddie and says Abby is taking out her personal stuff on everyone and tells her to just let it go since Abby is overwhelmed. Melissa thinks the stress is getting to Abby. They do a group rehearsal with Abby next. Abby gives JoJo some negative feedback. She then criticizes the whole group. Kira says Tessandra should be there soon and she’s excited that she’s coming to observe the girls and give them some advice. Kira says it’s an LA opportunity and has nothing to do with Abby. She calls the moms in and says she wants them to watch the group routine.
Then Tessandra shows up and says hi to Abby and says she wanted to stop and say hi. Abby tells her she has no idea who she is. Tessandra says the moms asked her to do a class but she wanted Abby’s permission first. Abby asks for her name again and Holly says this is so embarrassing how ride Abby is being to a guest who came to help the girls. Holly speaks up and says she’s busy and Tessandra can work with them. Tessandra says Kira called and asked her to do a class. Abby says Kira is being overzealous about trying to make LA connections.
Tessandra tells the moms she has to leave and says she has integrity and won’t go behind her back. The moms thank her. Jess says Abby was out of line and says Abby will have a hard time hiring dancers in LA after the way she treated Tessandra. Kira tells Abby they’re in LA and should take opportunities and says she’s popular in the industry. Kira spouts out some facts and Abby says too bad she hasn’t been on a TV show for five years. Abby says Gianna must be a sack of shit to them. Gianna says they’re done for the day and sends them away.
Melissa says she wants Tessandra to come do a class, but it has to be on Abby’s terms. They talk about how crazy it was that Abby acted like she didn’t know Tessandra. Holly says with no class there will be no wins. As a result of the blow up, group rehearsal ends early and Holly worries they’re once again not prepared for competition. It’s competition day and the fans are out screaming for Abby and the kids. The moms are really worried about losing the group number again today. Holly says Abby was abysmal towards Tessandra. Melissa says they need to let Abby know they’re with her.
But Holly says Abby is paranoid. Jill tells Abby they’re on her side and are just trying to help. Holly says Tessandra could have been a great resource. Abby says after all she did for their kids, they bring in a stranger to teach the kids and says it’s like slapping her in the face. Melissa says Abby decided to put Mackenzie in the group dance even though she’s been out all week working at Nickelodeon. Abby tells Maddie she better not lose today and says Nia and Kendall have great dances. Holly is worried about Nia who is losing technique for lack of classes.
Nia is out first with her solo. She finishes and it’s feedback time. The judges tell her it’s a great job but there’s always something to work on. She says to stay in her technique and ballet classes but says she danced like a mature performer. Holly says that’s exactly what they’ve been trying to tell Abby. Kendall is next with her solo Burn. Jill says Kendall hasn’t beaten Maddie in years but hopes she will today. The judge she was amazing and in the zone – no negative comments.
Next up is Maddie who says if she doesn’t win, Abby might kill her. The judges tell her that she needs to deepen her plie but it was a fantastic job. Holly says the judges are affirming what they were saying and Abby can’t deny the need for class. Jill asks Abby what she thought about the judge’s feedback. Holly asks what’s the disconnect and Abby says they overstepped. Nia tries to speak up and Jess says they need to figure out what to do. Abby says they’re flapping their mouths and not saying anything.
Abby says she doesn’t like mommies playing dancing school. Kira says she’s done it for 14 years and that’s why Kalani is the dancer she is. Abby shuts down and gets upset. Kendall goes to give her a hug. Jess says Abby knows she’s wrong so she bawls like a baby. The girls all go hug her. Holly says they all support her. Abby sends Kalani and JoJo and Nia away from her. Kira says all the girls support her. Kira snaps and Abby tells her not to point her finger at her. Kira tells her to go to hell.
Abby says Kalani would rather be with any other mother there than her. She tells Kalani they are leaving. Abby says she’s being a bitch and says she begged Abby to take Kalani. Abby says Kalani is better off with Abby than Kira since Kira is sleeping with some guy she’s not married too. Kira snaps and tells Melissa to go to hell too for always taking Abby’s side. Kira is screaming. Abby comes to get her stuff and says she’s leaving. She says she’s had enough.
She says they’re making her the bad guy over a few classes after four and a half years of success. Abby walks out and says she’s sick of all of this. Jess can’t believe Abby left the team right before the group dance. Kalani tells Kira she doesn’t want to deal with it and says she’s just there to dance but everything turns into a fight. Kira says that behavior of Abby’s can’t continue. Kalani wants to stay for the group number. Jill thanks Kalani for staying. Kira says they are staying for this group number.
She says that whether Kalani will stay for good is up in the air. Holly says with Abby gone they can focus as a team. They head out for their group number. The number ends and the judges tell the girls it was so professional and says to pick up the feet when they get tired. Jill says it was fabulous and they really brought it besides the drama. Now it’s awards time and solos are first. 5th place is Kendall. Jill says she’s happy Abby’s not there because she would be mad.
Nia takes 4th place. Holly says top five is fine with her and she hopes Nia wakes up and sees what she’s capable of doing. Maddie takes 3rd place. Gianna does not look pleased. Melissa says Maddie has never gotten 3rd before and says Abby won’t be happy. Now it’s the group awards. The moms are all hoping for a 1st place but they take 3rd. Holly says this is what happens when you have no dance studio and no training. She asks why they’re even in LA.
Maddie is upset and says Abby is going to be mad at her for 3rd. Kendall says she hasn’t won in eight weeks. Maddie says she’s a perfectionist and likes to win. Maddie says she let down Abby and the whole team. Jill says she thinks Abby will come back but the others aren’t sure. Either way, we know Kira and Abby are not done yelling at each other and Abby will not be pleased at how poorly they placed.
