RECAP:

On tonight’s episode of Dancing With The Stars, the Season 21 celebs and their partners will be dancing to songs that remind them of their “most memorable years.” Alexa PenaVega is up first, she says that her most memorable year was in 2000 – when she booked her first major role in “Spy Kids.” She remembers her mom and sisters always blasting the song “Mama Said” and tonight Alexa and her partner Mark Ballas will be dancing the foxtrot to that song. After their performance, they line up to hear what th judges have to say.

Julianne: “Tonight is obviously going to be a very emotional night, but we have to judge the dance for what it is. It was very fun and entertaining, I loved loved the energy – but there was a little mishap at the end where you lost your footing.”

Bruno: “You missed your train and your missed a few steps, but you found your way. But, I loved the imagination. In ballroom, you got to lift from the waist – and then you maintain your frame, it will help you on the quickstep.”

Carrie Ann: “What I loved this week is you finally used you’re the theatricality. You brought the strength of last week, but you made it so elegant and so light and so fun. There were the mistakes, but stay in this direction and keep expanding.”

SCORE: 21/30

Gary Busey and his partner Anna Trebunskay are up next, for Gary’s most memorable year he chose 1979 – the year he got an Academy Award nominee for his movie “Buddy Holly.” Tonight, Anna and Gary are dancing jazz to a Buddy Holly song, in his honor.

Bruno: “Your passion for the character made me almost forget your unique interpretation of the dance. Now, keep your passion going is the fuel for life. Now, precision, we have to nail the precision darling.”

Carrie Ann: “Every time you dance I just feel your spirit and it makes me so happy. But, it’s week 4 and I worry about you. We almost lost Anna – there was a little you know AHHH. I just feel so bad. It’s week 4 and I am looking for improvement.”

Julianne: “I gotta say, I think you had persistence when you wanted to recover and I think you have persistence in this competition. When you come back every single week, you are here to improve. And, Anna you did a good job. At the end of the day, you entertain!”

SCOREL 16/30

Tamar Braxton and Val Chmerkovskiy are up next, Tamar says that her most memorable year was 2012 – when her husband Vince almost passed away. He was in the hospital for 40 days with blood clots in his lungs, and he recovered and they had a baby. Tonight she and Val are dancing the rumba to her song “King.”

Carrie Ann: “Your tory touched me deeply, and yet what you danced touched me even more deeply. You reached in to my soul just now with that dance. This was such an incredible performance, and to see it have such a happy ending.”

Julianne: “I have never seen you more beautiful as you are right now, completely vulnerable and free and open. I have not given you a 9 yet and I think it is because you have been like an 8 – but not quite a 9. I don’t know what is going to happen tonight … meaning there has always been that little thing for me that has been missing, but tonight you had a height that exceded any other height you have ever had.”

Bruno: “Tonight your connection was wired to perfection. I tell you, no missed calls and the lines were as clear as a whistle. And, thank you very much for doing a proper rumba. Thank you Val!

SCORE: 27/30

Hayes Grier and his partner Emma Slater are up next, Hayes’s most memorable year is 2014 – when he rose to internet celebrity status on social media. He has decided to dance to his best friend Shawn Medez’s song, “Stitches.” Emma and Hayes take the DWTS stage and perform a contemporary dance. Now, it’s time to hear what the judges have to say.

Julianne: “What just happened! I am so shocked right now, completely shocked. You have completely broken out of that shell you have been living in. Should I do the 9 thing again? Honestly, okay, I’m done – that was great.”

Bruno: “Get out of here, what was that? What a breakthrough! You didn’t miss a beat, you went right on it on a way that is completely unexpected. As performers, the way you inhabited the characters – super star!”

Carrie Ann: “What I loved about this performance, was you finally understood the nuisances of every single move. You lifted Emma so beautifully, it was so graceful, all of it was incredible!”

SCORE: 27/30

American hero Alek Skarlatos is up next, his most memorable year is 2015 – for obvious reasons. He and his army friends were on a train that was hijacked by a terrorist, and they took him down and saved the day. Since then it has been a whirlwind – of meeting the president, and receiving awards. Alek has selected the song “Wake Me Up,” he and his partner Lindsay take the stage and dance the Paso Doble.

Bruno: “It must have been incredibly hard to perform with such emotional turmoil. And, you did it very, very well. If you do the Paso Doble again extend your lines and push your hips forward, but well done.”

Carrie Ann: “I have a lot of respect for you always. It wasn’t the most expressive dance, but I thought it was strong and sturdy, just the wayyou have always been. Loved it.”

Julianne: “You had a focus with Lindsay, your connection was so strong. You did your twists, which were amazing and you did a little toe tap. Dance is an expression, it’s an art. When you are frustrated and you are angry – let us see that. So, in the future, for any dance.”

SCORE: 24/30

Gary Busey and Anna Trebunskay were eliminated.

Former Backstreet Boy Nick Carter is up next, he says that his most memorable year was 1992 – when he went to a casing call to join the boy band. Tonight, he chose the song “Backstreets Back,” he and his partner Sharna Burgess take the DWTS stage and perform a jazz number.

Carrie Ann: “you were really good when you were in the Backstreet Boys, but you are far superior now. This ballroom dancing has turned you in to a beast!”

Julianne: “I’m going to keep this short. Hot! Hot ! Hot!”

Bruno: “This is what I call a superstar mega hit!”

SCORE: 27/30

Carlos PenaVega and Witney Carson are up next. For Carlos’s most memorable year he chose 2012, the year that he and his band Big Time Rush were at their peak. Then, the tour ended and he felt really alone and started smoking weed on a regular basis. For his song, he chose “Amazing Grace,” because that was when he started going to church. Carlos and Witney take the stage and perform a waltz to “Amazing Grace.”

Julianne: “First of all, thank you so much for sharing that beautiful dance. I could tell you were genuninely connected, so that was beautiful. Right now, you are kind of in the middle of the pack – the only way you can work on getting back is by working on your shoulders and opening up that chest.”

Bruno: “Your head and body intertwined with each other, I was lost in rapture. Your conviction was the best you have ever given. There was a little incident in the end where you almost lost it. You can’t hench forward and hold – but as a performance I was totally mesmerized.”

Carrie Ann: “I think both of you are a bit cray cray, dance is a creative expression of your soul. Tonight, you danced from your soul! That was mind-blowing, I am so happy for you!”

SCORE: 26/30

Paula Deen chose 1989 as her most memorable year because that was the year that she got “sick and tired of being sick and tired” and finally decided to divorce her husband and start her own business. For her son Paula chose “Respect,” she and Louis take the stage and perform the Cha Cha to the Aretha Franklin hit.
Bruno: “Look at those lollies! And you only went wrong! You can do it, campt it up even more, have more fun, and go for it. You made a step in the right direction.”

Carrie Ann: “I get frustrated with you, because I would like to be able to move the way that you move when you are your age. But, then you lose focus! You gotta keep going when you make a mistake girl.”

Julianne: “You are such a strong fierce woman that has overcome so much diversity, this is just a little ballroom dance – you got this. Just say to yourself every day ‘I am awesome! I am fierce!”

SCORE: 18/30

Andy Grammer chose the year that his mother passed away as the most memorable year in his life. For his song, Andy has chosen own single “Good To Be Alive.” Andy an his pro partner Alison Holker take the stage and perform the Cha Cha for the DWTS judges.

Carrie Ann: “I am judging the dance, remember this. I love the song, and I think you write such uplifting music. But tonight I thought there was an awkward to you – you have to watch your elbows more. I don’t feel like it is all working together.”

Julianne: “Well, I disagree Carrie Ann, I think this is the most comfortable we have saw you since week one!”

Bruno: “It was a cranky Carrie Ann moment, because I actually thought the message was loud and clear – and that worked for you. The Cha Cha is a bit angular, it can’t be angled or flat footed – so work on that.

SCORE: 23/30

Tonight’s final performance is Bindi Irwin. For her most memorable year, she has chosen the year that her dad Steve Irwin passed away. The song she has selected to honor her father, “The Crocodile Hunter,” is “Every Breath You Take.” Bindi and Irwin take the stage and perform a contemporary dance for the DWTS judges.

Julianne: “Okay, I probably am not the only one here that got their breath took away. We said at the beginning that we have to judge the actual dance – and that dance was breathtaking. One more thing, that was a tribute to your father and you should be very proud – but he is very proud too.”

Bruno: “Baby, he was dancing with you every step of the way. He is proud of you, and the world is proud of you.”

Carrie Ann: “What I love about watching you dance is I feel like I am watching you dance the way that you live your life. And, it is such an honor to see someone dance with such beauty and passion. Well done.”

SCORE: 28/30

Now, it is time to learn who will be eliminated in Week 4. The first couple in jeopardy tonight is Carlos PenaVega and Witney Carson, joining them is Gary Busey and Anna Trebunskay. After tallying the judges’ scores and America’s votes: Gary and Anna are officially eliminated from Dancing With The Stars.
