“Days of Our Lives” spoilers reveal that Serena Mason’s (Melissa Archer) scheme has come to an end. The rumors indicate Melissa Archer’s time at “Days” may be over as well and she might be fired from DOOL. Daytime Confidential’s sources say that Archer is getting the boot after her character failed to connect with DOOL viewers. While you can decide for yourself how you feel about Archer’s acting skills, the lackluster storyline she was given was widely panned. Over the past few months on “Days of Our Lives,” there have been torrid affairs, a stabbing and life-saving surgery, a deepening baby mystery and… a plot about an elephant. The statue flop—er, swap has been dull from the get-go.
The NBC soap has a history of taking too long to build up uninspiring secrets. Chrishell Stause, who recently exited the part of Jordan Ridgeway, met a similar fate thanks to a boring story. Both actresses came in as popular soap veterans. Melissa Archer was a fan favorite on “One Life to Live” and Chrishell Stause starred on “All My Children.” However, they really weren’t given an opportunity to succeed with their roles on “Days.” Jordan and Serena were dropped into storylines that forced them to stay strangers to viewers. When you throw new characters into the mix, you have to give fans a chance to get to know them in order for it to work. Jordan hid her past while Serena hid her mission, but the point is you can’t expect anyone to bond with roles that are shrouded in secrecy episode after episode.
DOOL has proven that not all newbies are destined for failure. For example, Paul Narita (Christopher Sean) was given a brief introduction period and then immediately woven into an exciting love triangle. Paul had an affair with Will (Guy Wilson) without knowing it was Sonny’s (Freddie Smith) husband. Likewise, Will was unaware that Paul was Sonny’s old boyfriend. “Days of Our Lives” viewers were treated to big reveals and explosive scenes that allowed Paul to become more than just a plot point. Serena, on the other hand, continues to fall flat and utters elephant-based dialogue 90 percent of the time. Serena finally got her hands on the diamonds she was after, but does anyone really care?
Fans of Melissa Archer may wonder what could have been, but there’s no sense crying over dropped statues. It sounds like Archer’s firing has been in the works since before Dena Higley and Josh Griffith took over as head writers. Now that major updates have been going on at DOOL, perhaps future additions to the cast will be given better treatment and no elephants. It’s safe to say no one will mind bidding farewell to Fred.
