Ellen DeGeneres claims that the tabloids are lying liars who are full of lies. But who’s the liar – Ellen or the tabloids? In a long interview with the Today Show, Ellen DeGeneres hit back against all the tabloid stories that are constantly circulating about her relationship or divorce from longtime wife Portia de Rossi.
When asked by Matt Lauer about developing a ‘thick skin’ in response to all the tabloid rumors, Ellen hit back with, “There doesn’t even need to be a [thick] skin, ’cause it’s not real. I’m just more flabbergasted by the fact that someone needs to make up a story. There’s never been a point where we were breaking up or divorcing or fighting. None of these stories are even remotely true.”
Sure, just like there’s no truth to the fact that Portia de Rossi was dealing with substance abuse issues and has a rumored alcohol addiction? Just like there was no truth to the fact that Ellen more or less forced her to attend rehab back in the spring? If there’s no truth to these rumors – especially the big ones – then why don’t Ellen and Portia deny them in a public forum? Portia de Rossi conveniently disappeared from the public eye when she was supposedly in rehab, so if she wasn’t in rehab, where was she? Plus, there are endless sources that confirmed that Portia did seek treatment for an alcohol addiction, and there are other legitimate reports that confirm that Ellen and Portia were fighting at the time.
Sure, most of these tabloid rumors are silly and perhaps exaggerated – but to say that none of it has any basis in truth? Well, methinks doth protest too much, no?
