Forever Recap 1/13/15: Season 1 Episode 13 "Diamonds Are Forever"

Tonight on ABC their new show Forever continues with an all new Tuesday January 13, season 1 episode 13 called, “Diamonds Are Forever” and we have your weekly recap below. On tonight’s episode, Henry [Ioan Gruffudd] comforts Jo [Alana De La Garza] as she deals with painful memories.

On the last episode, Greed was definitely not good when Henry and Jo investigated the murder of a young financial investment phenom from humble beginnings who turned up dead near the East River. Coincidently, he also happened to be the son of one of Abe’s wartime Army buddies. Henry’s first case back on the job after a leave to recover from killing a man has Jo and Lt. Reese kept him under observation out of an abundance of concern. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to Henry, Abe decided to play detective with his Army buddies to solve the murder with surprising results. In a touching flashback, Henry recalled his anxiety over letting a 17-year-old Abe go to Vietnam after he is recruited by the Army. Did you watch the last episode? If you missed it, we have a full and detailed recap right here for you.

On tonight’s episode as per the ABC synopsis, “Henry and Jo’s murder investigation of an ex-con, who is being framed for a jewelry story heist, reveals a special connection between the victim and Jo’s late husband, Sean, who was an assistant district attorney. Jo’s evocative memories reflect her warm and wonderful relationship with Sean, which become almost too painful for her to bear. Flashbacks trace Henry’s life to 1816 London where he ends up in jail. Incredibly, a priest, who is his cell mate, gives Henry a second chance at life. Meanwhile, Abe attempts to snare a thief who he believes walked off with a “priceless” antique from his store, and Henry is there to comfort Jo in her time of distress.”

Diamonds are forever. Human however have an expiration date and when a dead body was found not that far from Detective Jo’s home it opened an investigation that eventually led back to her deceased husband. On tonight’s episode of “Forever”, a man was murdered and had his body repeatedly run over. But this wasn’t just any man. He was an ex-con that had supposedly robbed a jewelry store hours before his death.

With one quick glance at the case, Jo was willing to dismiss it as one partner turning against the other. As they so often love to do. Though later she found out her former husband had a personal connection with the con she was so quick to write off.

It seems Aaron Brown had turned over a new leaf thanks in large part to Jo’s husband who took a chance on him when no one else would. Sean was a prosecutor on Aaron’s case and he talked the parole board into going easy on him. Aaron had said he wanted to be around his daughter as she grew up and Sean chose to believe him rather than his record.

And then the most amazing thing happened afterwards. Once he was given a second chance, Aaron left his former life behind. His wife claims he had cleaned up and put everything he used to do in the past where it belonged.

And in case Jo didn’t want to believe her then she at least had to trust Henry when he said the case against Aaron appeared more than just iffy.

Henry took a look at the crime scene at the jewelry store and in less than five minutes he managed to see how someone had gone about setting Aaron up for a crime he hadn’t committed. His partner on the other hand needed him to spell it out for her and the other detective.
Jo was going to need more from him in order to convince the detective working the heist who also happened to be an old friend of hers from the academy. Henry is generally right in these scenarios but Hank was new to him. So Henry had to give them details.

He said Aaron was physically incapable of doing everything the man on the security footage was revealed to do. Aaron was a natural leftie yet the man in the video was seen to be forcing himself into using his left hand. So whoever set up Aaron to take the fall was probably the same man that killed him.

Hence Henry knew they had to catch this man at any cost and because this is Henry – he proceeded to analyze sweat that was found recently resurfaced face mask. And what he found was a man obviously suffering the effects of type two diabetes.

The sweat smelled sweet like pancakes and going back into Aaron’ s history showed there was only one man he knew that had type two diabetes. This same man was released on early parole because of his health condition. So it wasn’t that hard to track him down. After all his probation officer had his address on file.

But bringing him is what proved to be the hardest part. Gunshots were fired and by the end of it both Diego (the suspect) and Detective Hanson had been. However only Diego’s wound turned out to be fatal.

So that was it. The detectives felt they had closed their case but Henry wasn’t as sure. Especially not after Henry found some diamonds while he was performing an autopsy on Diego. It seems Diego had ingested them when the cops came looking for him. Yet, when Abe took a look at the diamonds he told Henry they were shown to be of low quality. And that just didn’t make any sense. How could a known jewel thief steal pieces of cheap rock?

Diego would have had to case the place beforehand and if he saw real diamonds one moment then who had the means of switching them out before they could be stolen? The answer was the store owner. He had to be on the heist and there was just no other way to explain it.

The store owner was going report his expensive jewels stolen and collect the insurance money meanwhile Diego was going to be stuck carrying useless diamonds.

It was the perfect plan until Henry foiled it. And then it was up to Jo and Hank to arrest this guy. But those two never made it to the store to make an arrest. Before they got there, Henry had found out that Hank was in on the heist this entire time and that it was Hank that had shot Hanson – not Diego!

An examination of Hanson’s would ended up proving this theory but Henry had figured this out whilst Jo was already sharing the same car with a known killer. So because her life was in danger – Henry called her and told her to do something very dangerous. Henry told her to crash her car into a barricade.

And seeing as Henry had given his assurances, Jo chose to believe him. She actually went through with crashing her car and like Henry said she somehow survived it.

The trust Jo had placed in him isn’t something Henry with his condition is used to but once there was a priest who had believed him when he said he was immortal. And that priest helped saved his life. People were bound to figure out Henry wasn’t aging yet a disappearing act helped him from living out his life is some laboratory somewhere.

So Henry and Jo are friends. Neither of them probably realized how much they depend on each other until that very moment with the barricade. And after Hank had been dealt with – Henry went to Jo’s place to help her through her memories of Sean.

Jo it seems hasn’t forgiven herself yet for being angry at her husband when he died and she’s been feeling guilty because of that. And for the fact her Sean was a good man. So much so that the reason Aaron was found in her neighborhood was that he was looking for Sean. Aaron knew he was in trouble and only trusted one person to help him.

THE END!
