“General Hospital” (GH) spoilers tease that while Robin Scorpio (Kimberly McCullough) and Patrick Drake (Jason Thompson) will seemingly get their happily ever after, tragedy may soon befall the newly reunited couple. It has been confirmed that Robin will be back in Port Charles for Christmas.
That means she’ll enjoy a much-needed reunion with daughter Emma Drake (Brooklyn Rae Silzer) and will also get some face time with Jason Morgan (Billy Miller). But the joy may be short-lived. Kimberly McCullough has hinted that Patrick and Robin will finally get their honeymoon.
If you recall, the duo never got to enjoy a lover’s getaway after they were married at their second wedding (the first being interrupted by Emma’s birth). They had talked about taking an extended trip. However, their plans were marred by a series of unfortunate events and Patrick and Robin finally divorced.
But once Robin is finally liberated from her Cassadine-paid captors, Patrick will discover that Robin never wanted to be apart from him or Emma. This reaffirms for Patrick that he was destined to be with Robin and they make plans to be together.
When the duo leave Port Charles for their honeymoon, it makes sense to leave Emma behind since that’s a grown-up trip. After all, what heartless parents would abandon their child when they just got back together? Likely we will see Patrick and Robin exit with plans to return.
But a long hinted at GH spoiler indicates that a plane crash or airline tragedy will lead to one or more characters to be missing and presumed dead. Will Robin and Patrick’s plane be lost at sea? This leaves the showrunners many more options.
Jason Thompson is, of course, moving over to “The Young and The Restless” to pick up the mantle of Billy Abbott as Burgess Jenkins moves on. But, you never know how things will play out in Soapland. With Robin and Patrick “lost” they can resurrect them at any point.
While hardcore Scrubs fans would not want to see anyone fill the shoes of Kimberly McCullough or Jason Thompson, a recast could happen for one or both parts. The storyline of them being lost on their honeymoon allows both to exit but open to a return for the actors or their characters.
Plus, it allows for a humane exit while leaving Emma behind. It would be a terrible tragedy for Patrick and Robin to leave for Doctors without Borders – or a similar project – and ditch Emma in Port Charles. And Nathan Varni has assured fans that Emma is sticking around.
We also know that Kimberly McCullough is only back short-term to facilitate closure of the Scrubs story as Jason Thompson exits. So spoilers indicating that Robin and Patrick will somehow go missing align with the casting facts that we know are in play.
The bottom line is, though, even if it was unintentional, Emma will once again be left without her mother – and even worse, will also now lose her father. Emma will be devastated and that opens up a wealth of complex future storylines.
Emma was captivating in her grief when Patrick and Sam Morgan (Kelly Monaco) announced their split, so the drama of Emma finding out her parents are both lost to her should be gripping. Emma being left in Anna Devane’s (Finola Hughes) care also opens up storylines there.
With Finola Hughes recently inking a three-year deal to stick around GH, there will be more room to expand her story as she plays “single Mom” to her granddaughter after the loss of Robin and Patrick. This is a conundrum for Anna who was often in and out of Robin’s life.
It’s a chance for Anna to redeem herself as a mother by taking on the full-time responsibility of caring for Emma. And for Emma, as she moves into her teen years, she’ll have so much angsty backstory to play out because of this tragedy that it represents a wealth of storyline veins to be tapped.
