#H50 starts now. Steve is playing beach football with – -. He gets a call from Joe asking about Danny. He says he’s at school for career day. Joe says to get him out of there now. Danny is at Sacred Heart Academy with Max talking about being a cop. All the kids have questions for max, none for Danny. Deputy Knox, a US Marshal comes in and arrests him for murder. Grace freaks but Danny says he’ll get it sorted. Max is horrified.
Max calls Steve who calls Chin. They scramble to figure out what’s going on. Chin finds Coughlin and arrests him. He says this time it’s conspiracy to commit murder. Steve is turned away at the federal detention center and says he’s being processed and no visitors. They tell him sorry and flashing the badge doesn’t help at all. He calls Chin but gets voice mail. Joe pulls up and says to get in. Steve hops in and they speed off.
Danny is shown to Sam Alexander from the State Department. Danny says he must be a spook. Sam says he’s going to be extradited to Columbia to be tried for the murder of Marco Reyes. He says the Columbians have evidence that place him in the room when Marco died and they know he had motive because Reyes killed Danny’s brother. Sam tells him to sign and extradition waiver. Danny asks why he’d sign it and Sam says because he’s guilty.
Joe tells Steve that Reyes was a CIA asset and that’s why they’re pursuing this. They want Danny to pay for them losing their source. In Chinatown, Joe goes to a shop and buys some smokes. He opens the pack and pulls out a flash drive. Joe shows Steve what Reyes was working on for the CIA – it’s an operation called Sandpiper. He says Wall Street invested in the housing market in Columbia but it was actually a laundering operation and risked the stability of the US economy.
Reyes was moving the coke that underscored the laundering operation. Joe says the CIA had Reyes under surveillance and that’s how they know Danny did it and that Steve was there. Steve asks why they didn’t arrest him and Joe says he likely gets a free pass because he’s a Navy SEAL. Kono comes in and says Duke called and said Coughlin arrested Chin. Joe says this can’t be a coincidence. Coughlin says Chin is done being a cop and is headed for a 20 year sentence.
Coughlin says there won’t be any bail since the $5.5 million his brother in law gave him is still missing. Coughlin says he took money to put him in a private cell. Chin says he borrowed the money to pay ransom on Danny’s brother. Coughlin says he’s skeptical but Chin says it’s the truth, something Coughlin isn’t interested in. Coughlin says he took drug money from a cop killer. Chin says he tried to help a friend and took out a loan. Coughlin says he doesn’t know a friend who would do that for him.
Chin smirks and says Coughlin has no friends. Lou says Gabriel Waincroft has been moved likely by Coughlin. Lou says Gabriel is holding the info out for a deal. Sam shows Danny photos of him carrying bags of cash. Danny says they left the money at an orphanage. Sam says he must love kids to hand over that much cash. Sam says the could have retired on that. Danny says he’s trying to figure out why he cares about a scumbag drug dealing murderer. Sam says it’s simple – he killed someone.
Danny says Reyes cut up his brother and put him into pieces in a barrel. Sam says Reyes had two young sons about Grace’s age. He says Danny took the law into his own hands. He asks Sam why he’s there and working this case. Danny says it’s not why he said. He says Reyes was on the CIA payroll and what he was still into is still in play and that’s why they want him to take the fall because Reyes expired before they got what they wanted. Sam says he’ll get him a book for the flight to Columbia.
Danny asks what his daughter will hear if he signs the extradition paper. Sam says only what he reads in the papers. Danny asks if Sam is threatening him and the guy says to just sign the waiver so they can be done with this. Steve meets Ellie and she hands over an envelope and says it fell out of a truck. She says she heard Danny is waiving extradition and says as soon as the judge signs the paper too, Danny is gone for good.
Danny is in a holding pen at the court. Sam says the judge is ready. Steve runs up in the hall and Sam tells him to step back. Steve says Danny has been denied counsel but Sam says he refused it. Danny tells Steve to tell Grace that he’s okay and will call when he can. Steve says he was in the room when Reyes was dead and says the Columbians must want him too. Sam isn’t having it and Steve tells Danny to stop protecting him.
Coughlin goes out to see Gabriel where he’s got him stashed. He asks about Chin then says he came to him for money and didn’t have to. Coughlin asks if the money went to pay ransom for Danny’s brother. Gabriel says he paid it to Chin to get him out of gen pop. He says being related to a cop was causing him trouble in jail. He asks if Gabriel will testify to that and he says he will if Coughlin sweetens the deal. He demands a sentence reduction. Coughlin says he’s a cop killer and it won’t happen.
Gabriel says if not, he won’t get Chin Ho Kelly. Coughlin offers minimum security and says it’s the best he can do. Gabriel says he wants to see it in writing. Kono tells Steve that Duke is standing by to put a tail on Coughlin to find Gabriel. Kono says she thinks Coughlin is going to nail Chin this time. She says they’re already seizing his property and he’s losing everything he worked hard for. Steve says they won’t let him go down without a fight. He reassures her.
Joe comes to see Steve and says there’s more to Danny’s arrest. He says Reyes was in the middle of a big deal and died on the CIA’s watch. He says $1.3 billion of cocaine has been lost. Steve says it’s not about the murder but the missing dope. Steve runs Sam off the road and confronts him. Steve offers him a deal. He says Danny’s freedom for the coke shipment. He says he and Joe know where it is but he can’t see it until Danny is released with exoneration paperwork. Sam says Danny is already on the way to Bogota but says if they offer up the coke, he can get him back from the Columbians.
Steve says he needs 48 hours and Sam wishes him luck. Sam drives off and Joe says they have no idea where it is and Steve agrees. Coughlin is in Chin’s office when Steve tells him to get out. Steve counts down and threatens him. Coughlin takes what he already took and leaves. Joe tells Steve to stay focused. Lou is frustrated and says they don’t have anything on the three tons of coke. Joe says they can’t do this from 6,000 miles away.
Kono says the tail paid off and they found Gabriel. Lou says as soon as Coughlin locks up his case against Chin, Gabriel will go back inside. Steve says Danny won’t last a week in a South American prison. Joe gets a call and leaves to take it. Steve says he has to go take care of something. Lou asks where they’re all going. Steve goes to see Grace to explain things to her. Grace asks if Danny murdered someone. She asks if it was a bad person. Steve says she has to believe in her dad.
Steve says her dad is the best guy who knows who protects the people he loves. He hugs her and promises that he’s going to bring him home. In Bogota, Danny is delivered to a seedy and large prison. Things are thrown at him and people yell obscenities. Joe tells the others he found an oil refinery that was run by an old buddy of Reyes. Joe says Reyes held Matty somewhere that the CIA didn’t know about. Joe says there is too much security at the defunct place for anything else.
Steve says they have one shot and can use the intel to bring Danny home and says if it doesn’t work out they can all end up in a South American prison. In Cartegena, Frank works on a helicopter. Joe, Lou, Kono and Steve pull up. Steve is scared of the salvaged helicopter. Frank calls it vintage aviation. Lou says it looks like a washing machine with a propeller. He says they need to leave now before the weather hits. They load up into the rust bucket. Frank says to trust him.
At the jail, Danny is in a fight with a bunch of other guys. The guards finally drag them apart. The guard tells Danny he has to pay to survive in there and they beat him with their clubs and tell him if he doesn’t pay, he dies. Danny says he just needs a phone call to get the money. They tell him whatever he needs and they drag him up. Frank says he got radio contact asking him to identify himself. They’re still three miles out. Steve says to ignore it but then someone fires on them.
They return fire. Danny is taken into a room to make a call. The guard tells him to get them their money. Danny calls his house. He gets Grace and tells her he loves her. She asks if he’s okay and he says he always is. She asks when he’s coming on and he says soon. They unplug the phone and ask Danny if he thinks this is a game. They knock him down and beat and kick him. Coughlin is confronted by Steve again and he tells Sam they found the coke and says they destroyed it.
He shows them a video of the team burning all the coke. Steve says they also found Reyes’ books and he holds up a flash drive. He says that is all of Sandpiper including all the payoff accounts including Columbian generals, politicians and one American. Joe says that’s Sam. Steve says all Sam wanted was his piece of the action. Sam says he’s meddling in international affairs. Steve tells him to release Danny with all charges dropped, then resign and disappear or he releases all of the information.
Coughlin takes the deal to Gabriel in writing to sign. Instead of signing, he attacks Coughlin and jams the pen in his eye. He takes Coughlin’s gun and runs out. Chin is released and asks where Coughlin is. Kono is there and hugs him. She tells him Coughlin is dead and Gabriel is gone. She says that he escaped and that was likely his plan all along. She says without Gabriel and Coughlin, there’s no case against him.
Steve drives Danny home. He looks a little worse for wear but is otherwise okay. Steve asks Danny why he didn’t lawyer up and fight it. Danny says no lawyer could change what he did. He says he felt a certain way about killing Reyes and he didn’t want to keep feeling that way. Steve thanks him and Danny says that’s what family does. Grace runs over to see her dad. He picks her up in a hug. He tells her he told her he was coming home. Joe is there too and smiles to see them back together.
Joe says they earned their trident to day and Steve says ooyah. Joe then says he knows he was surveilling him in quarantine and doesn’t blame him. He tells Steve the suspicion has to stop and asks him to trust him. Steve tells him to give him a reason and Joe says he will given the chance. Steve asks about the contact who gave them the info on the refinery. He asks who owes Joe and he says it was Steve’s mother and she gave it because she owes Steve, not him.
Steve asks if that’s why he wasn’t arrested with Danny. Chin goes home and his phone rings. The call says it’s from Coughlin. Gabriel says – you’re welcome. Then he hand sup and walks down an alley.
