Homeland Season 5 spoilers reveal the premiere episode is Sunday October 4 and we have spoilers for you from GLOBE and other sources about the CIA action coming our way. There are juicy tidbits about Carrie Matheson’s love life. Season 5 kicks off with Carrie (Claire Daines), who has turned her back on the CIA and her contacts there, relocated to Germany to set up a normal life with daughter Frannie.
The new season of Homeland picks up two years after the end of Season 4 with Carrie in Germany working as a security expert, enjoying a stable home life with toddler Frannie and a boyfriend. To Homeland fans’ great disappointment, the boyfriend in question is not Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) but new guy Jonas Happich (Alexander Fehling). Quinn has been off doing the CIA’s dirty work in Syria.
What’s interesting is that Quinn took on the dicey assignment after Carrie turned down his offer to settle into domesticity and try a “normal” relationship. Then Carrie went and found normalcy without the hunky assassin at her side. Not only is Carrie out of touch with Quinn, but also with her mentor Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin) – but it looks like the two men from her past life are still close.
Rupert Friend was quoted in a Homeland teaser video saying “Quinn and Saul have struck up a very special friendship. It’s a bond that no one else can know about.” Mandy Patinkin also talked up the plot twist and said, “There is no one on this planet that Saul would put more trust and faith in than Peter Quinn.” Nice to see the gang is not entirely splintered, but the Quinn/Saul friendship is on the down low.
Rupert Friend said the Quinn of Season 5 has turned into a “war machine” and a “much more brutal soldier” after Carrie turned him down. Last we saw the Homeland gang, they were fractured but still together. Now, Saul is still deep in the intelligence game and relishing his second chance at life after surviving season 4’s brutal kidnapping and near-death experience.
Carrie is enjoying peace and quiet in Germany, but Saul will reportedly shake this up in episode 1 of season 5 after a disastrous data breach sees her former boss show up on her doorstep in Deutschland. Twins Luna and Lotta Pfitzer will swap off to play the role of Frannie Matheson. Claire Danes says, “Carrie has settled into true domesticity. She’s doing great – for about five minutes.”
Treacherous Dar Adal (F Murray Abraham) is back for Season 5 and, in addition to the twins and new BF Jonas (Alexander Fehling), other Season 5 cast additions include Carrie’s new boss Otto Düring (Sebastian Koch), Allison Carr (Miranda Otto) as the CIA’s Berlin station chief, and Laura Sutton (Sarah Sokolovic) as a co-worker/journalist at the foundation where Carrie works.
