Seven months earlier, Marty and his dad drive down the road headed to drop Marty off at prison. Jeremiah tells him he should talk to Roscoe about what’s happening. He asks Roscoe if he wants to talk about this and if he has any questions. Roscoe asks his grandpa how much longer because there’s a birthday party he wants to go to. Marty gets snippy but Jeremiah tries to smooth things over. Roscoe says all his friends are at Six Flags and he’s there. He says – this sucks. Marty says both their days are going to suck.
Now, Marty finds Malcolm flirting with Chantelle while she cooks breakfast. Marty scoffs Malcolm’s talk about his own opinion. Jeremiah greets his GF with a kiss and Malcolm says he’ll wake up Roscoe but he’s over at a friend’s. Malcolm mocks his brother’s parenting skills and Marty asks why he’s at their house. Malcolm says his love for the all might dollar left him in jail and he doesn’t even care where his kid is. Marty thanks him for the psycho analysis and asks when Malcolm’s brief appearance will be over.
Marty tells him to put on a shirt. Marty reminds him that Chantelle belongs to Jeremiah. He leaves for work. Jeannie is running a meeting about a new app and says they should offer a free ad-based version then a premium version. A couple of the idiot programmers pull off their shirts to show off their new tats. Clyde asks if this is Magic Mike. Jeannie tells them to focus but they won’t until she threatens to show them her giant pregnancy belly button.
They’re interested and she offers then to show it as a reward if they pay attention. Roscoe and his buddy cut school to party. Molly, a chick that bought one of his purses, talks Roscoe up and another girl asks for Kate Spade bags. He tells her to get out of his face then he lights up a bong. Marty sees a motorcycle parked in his reserved space then kicks it over. He talks about fortune coming from the word Fortuna, goddess of chance.
He says it’s BS and that real fortune is relentless and calculated. He says you have to make fortune happened then talks about Ellis’ stock going through the roof until he was jailed for not paying income taxes. Marty says now that he took over, the stock is through the roof. He says if the stock hits a certain level, they get a $9 million bonus. He heads inside. Kelsey says Jeannie was great but these guys are idiots and all the shit falls on her.
She asks her to come on board her app project. She says it’s good pay but Jeannie says she has a good job. Kelsey asks her to think about it because she’s dying with the boys’ club. Jeannie says she’ll consider it. Doug complains that the stock price is not high enough but Marty says it will happen by the end of the day. Marty says they are going to make a date with that stock price and ram it home. Jeannie says nice rape metaphor.
She says – let’s go rape the shit out of this. Marty says – baby bump – and they all fist bump her big belly. They get someone to trigger an inside stock thing then Doug hops in an elevator and pushes all the buttons. Jeannie talks on her cell phone where Norm can overhear. She acts like she didn’t know he was there then abruptly ends the call like she’s keeping a secret. Marty and Clyde go see a blogger and treat him to a fancy lunch.
They encourage him to write a blog about Manchester. The guy says his followers count on him for real news. Marty says they’ll make it worth his while but he says they can’t afford him. Clyde snaps a pic of Marty shaking hands with him and says they’re going to post a blog about him making a deal with ex-con Marty. They blackmail him into dropping a blind item after lunch. Mission accomplished and they’re done with him.
Roscoe is in bed with a girl when someone walks in on them. Jeannie finds Marty lurking and he shows her the price is at 191. They need just nine more points. Jeannie says she has an ultrasound appointment later and he says it’s cool for her to go. She says he’s invited and he asks if everything is okay. She says it’s routine. He asks if she needs a ride but she says no. Marty gets a call from Roscoe’s principal who tells him Roscoe isn’t at school. Marty is aggravated.
Back seven months ago, Jeremiah, Roscoe and Marty pull up at the prison. Marty says they can say goodbye here and he’ll go in alone. He hugs his dad then hugs Roscoe who gives him sarcasm and sass. Marty says he’s going to make up the missed time with him and will give him driving lessons, take him shopping and to the next dumb Hunger Games movie. He tells Roscoe that he’s all that matters to him. Roscoe reminds him that Marty can trade smokes to get stuff inside.
Roscoe tells Marty he wishes he didn’t have to go and hugs him again. Marty says it will be all right and they share a bro handshake. Marty heads in and his dad and son head off. Now, Marty comes home and finds Roscoe chatting up his buddies. Marty says they can play a game like Scrabble or Risk. Roscoe tells him to chill. Marty says maybe they can play – what did I do today instead of going to school. Roscoe says everyone was out.
Roscoe’s buddies bail and say they have math prep. Marty says that sounds like a lie. He sits and kicks Roscoe’s foot off the coffee table. He asks what Roscoe has to say – nothing. Marty tells him that he believes in him and Roscoe says no. Marty says all this has him worried and Roscoe asks what he wants from him. Marty says he wants him to be happy as much as he can. Roscoe says Marty isn’t happy and his dad says he’s working on it.
He says his happiness mechanism got broken a long time ago and Roscoe reminds him he’s having another kid that he doesn’t even acknowledge and asks what that says about his happiness. Roscoe tells Marty that he doesn’t even know anything about him and Marty says to tell him and says he won’t judge him. Roscoe asks if his parents knew his every move when he was his age. Marty laughs and says no but says he didn’t turn out so great.
Marty tells him that he’s there, not prefect, but present. He tells him hickeys take a week to fade and Roscoe covers his neck. Doug calls Jeannie in and says he heard Kelsey made her an offer. Clyde calls her a delusional bitch. Jeannie says she doesn’t want to hear them talk about their periods. Doug says Kelsey seems to think she’s seriously considering it and Jeannie says she is. Doug asks if the money issues are that serious.
Jeannie says that’s not it but Marty has asked her to leave after Gage wraps up. They’re in shock. Doug says no, he can’t accept it. He says it’s like breaking up The Beatles. He says Marty is John, Clyde is Paul, he’s George and then Jeannie says she’s not Ringo. Then Doug says she’s like the girl whose around and Clyde says he just called her Yoko. Doug says she can be like the white Yoko. Doug says he can talk to Marty and give him some tough love.
Jeannie tells him there’s nothing he can do. Doug hops on the desk and starts the – Oh Captain, My Captain speech then asks Clyde to join him. Jeannie says she’s touched but is going back to work. She’s almost run down by an idiot on a scooter in the hall. She goes to her ultrasound appointment. The tech asks if anyone else is coming and she says no, to just get started. The tech tells her that it all looks good and she’s almost in position. She asks if she wants a jpeg for her Facebook page and Jeannie laughs and says no.
She’s staring at her smart phone and starts telling the tech personal stuff about the stock, her boss being her baby daddy and says he’s angry at her and it’s hurting them both. She asks the tech what to do and she tells her she should ask her friends. Jeannie smirks and says she’ll ask them. Marty sits outside the doctor’s office in his car but doesn’t go in. He gets a call from Doug that the stock broke 200 but he doesn’t seem pleased.
Jeannie sees it spike on her phone and says – holy shit. She stares over at the screen to look at the baby. Marty doesn’t get out of the car. He finally drives off.
THE END!
