Tonight’s episode of How To Get Away With Murder kicks off with the present time – Michaela and Connor are running out of the house where Annalise has just been shot. Wes and Laurel are hiding around the corner and watch them leave. Wes is holding a gun – he says that they “have to stop them.”
Flashback: Annalise and her students are working on Catherine and Caleb’s case – they are trying to prove that Phillip is the killer on their parents. Annalise warns them not to tell Catherine and Caleb about Phillip, she doesn’t want them to do something stupid and ruin the case. Meanwhile, Nate is at the hospital cleaning out Nia’s room, and he is served with papers. Apparently, Sinclair found an excuse to drug test Nia after her death, and she is asking the court for permission to do so. Annalise rushes to Nate’s house – he confesses that he is the one that gave the pills to his wife and helped her die.
At the office, Asher corners Bonnie and wants to know why she isn’t returning his phone calls. She reveals that she knows all about Trotter Lake – and that he and his friends got in trouble for gang raping a girl at a party. Asher insists that he had nothing to do with it, Bonnie doesn’t want to hear it, she storms out.
Annalise heads to court, she is trying to get a plea deal for her client Dale who is accused of driving his ex-wife’s new husband to committing suicide by jumping off a building. Dale is obviously unstable, and he won’t take the plea deal – now they are going to trial. When they leave court Annalise lectures Dale that he needs to leave his ex-wife alone, Sharon obviously doesn’t love him anymore. When they are leaving court Annalise runs in to Sinclair – she tells her to leave Nate alone. Sinclair snarks that she knows Nate killed Nia so that he could be with her. Annalise grows back, “you are messing with the wrong bitch.”
Annalise puts Wes and Laurel on the Tidwell case, she tells them to find something that would prove Marco killed himself because he was depressed – not because he was being stalked. Wes and Laurel learn that Marco was going to AA meetings. Annalise heads back to court and argues that Marco killed himself because he was an alcoholic. But, their whole case is blown out of the water when the defense plays a recording of Marco’s 911 call. Apparently, right before he jumped he called 911 and told them that it “was all Dale’s fault.”
Annalisa sneaks in a quick meeting in the car with her exgirlfriend/Nate’s lawyer Eve. She apologizes for not calling her after she left town. Eve reassures her that she will take good care of Nate. Annalise jokes that she could throw the case and Nate will go to jail, then they could run off together and live happily ever after.
Annalise sends Wes to court to listen in on Nate’s case – Sinclair puts Nia’s nurse on the witness stand and asks her if she gave Nate drugs to help him kill his wife. The nurse has a meltdown on the witness stand and shouts that it should be legal for people to help their loved ones end their lives. Wes returns to Annalise’s office – he tells her that the judge granted Sinclair her warrant to test Nia’s blood, and he thinks that Nate’s lawyer Eve threw the case.
Annalise tracks down Eve at a bar and demands to know if she threw the case. Eve insists that she didn’t – Annalise isn’t buying it, Wes told her that she didn’t cross examine the key witness. Eve reassures her that it is all part of her plan, and that Nate is on board with it – it will all work out in the long run. Annalise doesn’t seem totally convinced, but she agrees to stick around and have a plate of tater skins and mozzarella sticks.
Laurel is scheming – she goes to the DA’s building and asks if Sharon lives there. The doorman tells her that Sharon doesn’t live there, she just visits the DA late at night. Laurel realizes that the DA Nelson was sleeping with Sharon, and he is actually the one that drove Marco to commit suicide. They head back to court and Annalise calls the DA to the stand, she brings in the doorman and he has no choice but to admit that he was sleeping with Sharon. The DA pleads the 5th amendment on the witness stand so that he doesn’t incriminate himself any further.
After Annalise wins in court – she tries to call Eve’s cell phone. She ignores her call, because she and Nate are working on the court case. Eve drives Nate back to the hospital, and sends him in to talk to the nurse that was on the witness stand. Later, they go back to the court and the judge reads the drug test – someone doctored the results (the nurse obviously) and there were no traces of drugs in her blood. So, Nate is off the hook.
Bonnie is still giving Asher the cold shoulder, he tracks her down at her apartment and gravels and begs her to forgive him. He rambles that he just wants to reach out to the girl that got raped and make it right, Asher says that he will even testify against his own father for covering up the crime. Bonnie is taking it personal – she says that she can’t look at Asher the same anymore. Bonnie can tell that Annalise told Asher that she was raped and molested when she was a child by the way he is acting towards her – and she is furious.
Annalise sits down with Eve to celebrate their wins in court – they drink wine together and joke about running off to Paris. Annalise laughs that she has some “Sam Money” from his life insurance policy. Eve wants to talk about Wes, she met him at court, Eve can tell that Wes is the one that Annalise has been protecting all along. Annalise says that Wes is not just some student, “he is him.” They both get choked up, and Eve apparently knows who “him” is – they fall in to bed together and begin hooking up.
Back at Annalise’s office – Oliver is working on Phillip She set up a coffee date with him online, he used Conner’s picture on the profile page. Conner is furious, he says that he is not going any where near a serial killer. And, he is sick of Oliver trying to get involved in their cases and acting crazy. Oliver won’t listen to Conner – he says he will just go on the date himself and lie and say that he used a model’s pic off from the internet.
Annalise returns home from her romp with Eve and finds Bonnie drunk in her office. Bonnie confronts her – she can’t believe that she told Asher about Bonnie getting raped and molested. Annalise reminds her that she would have gone to prison if she didn’t tell Conner about her past and make him feel bad about testifying. Annalise and Bonnie get in to a screaming match and Annalise tells her that she loves her. Bonnie snaps back that she wishes that Annalise was dead, and that the students had killed her instead of Sam.
Conner heads to the café to meet up with Phillip. Laurel, Michaela, and Frank are sitting outside in a car watching him. Laurel sneaks her phone out and calls Annalise and tells her what they are doing. Phillip never showed up to the date. Annalise calls them and tells them to get out of the café ASAP, and to pull the plug on their plan. Meanwhile, Phillip shows up at Oliver and Conner’s house – and sneaks inside.
THE END!
