Tonight’s episode of How To Get Away With Murder kicks off with Wes, Rebecca, Michaela, Connor, and Laurel in Wes’s apartment panicking over the police finding Sam’s remains in a landfill. Laurel calls Frank panicking and Frank screams at her not to call him because they are all being watched and they can use their phone records as evidence.
A police officer arrives at Annalise’s house to tell her that Sam is dead. Sam’s sister Hannah begins freaking out and screaming at the cop to arrest Annalise. She screams that Annalise is a murderer, and she killed Sam.
The next morning Annalise heads to class, she calls Nate on the way and tells him to get a burner phone so they can talk and orders him not to talk to the police no matter what they say to him. Annalise storms in to her class and writes the “5th Amendment” on the board. She says to her class that the first mistake anyone makes is talking to the police – she instructs her students to never talk to the police because anything they say can be twisted or misconstrued against them. Back at the office, Bonnie is having a meltdown. She sobs to Frank that she thinks Annalise had Sam killed because he kissed her.
Annalise finds out that her client Leo cancelled their meeting, and doesn’t want her representing his nephew Paul anymore in his drug case. She pays them a visit at the docks and screams at them that they can’t fire her, because they are her only clients right now. Meanwhile, Hannah goes to the police station and hounds them about Sam’s murder – they inform her that they can’t search the Keating house without probable cause. Hannah rambles that Annalise came from a violent home, and statistically is more likely to commit murder. The detective informs her that is not enough, and she needs to come back when she has something real. Hannah sees photos of Sam’s dead body hanging on a bulletin board and lies and tells the detective that Annalise threatened to murder Sam and she heard it.
Annalise calls her students to her office and briefs them on their case for Paul and the Lombardo Crime Family, he was charged with drug possession and the intent to distribute 300 kilos of heroin. She tells them to check the exchange of custody of the containers to see if anyone else could have put the drugs in them. There were thousands of containers going through the port, but the only one that was weighed and searched was the one that was full of cocaine. They think that someone at the port tipped off authorities – an Annalise tells her students to find out who.
Frank watches the surveillance tapes from the port and realizes that the FBI men rushed straight to the heroin container and didn’t even look at the other containers. It was clear that there was a rat that tipped off the FBI. Annalise pays Leo a visit and warns him that someone snitched on Paul. He has no idea who the rat is, but he tries to hit on Annalise since her husband is dead now.
Wes is busy cyber stalking Rudy Walters, the guy that used to live in the apartment before him. He can’t stop thinking about the scratch marks on the wall – and he thinks it is strange that his mail is still arriving at the apartment and no one knows he lives there anymore. Wes stops the landlord and asks him if Rudy left a forwarding address. The landlord has no idea where he went or what happened. He says Wes should ask Rebecca since she is the one that called the cops on him the night that he was arrested and carted away.
Wes heads upstairs and asks Rebecca why she didn’t tell him about Rudy. She says that she didn’t lie – she didn’t know Rudy. One night he was freaking out and having a mental breakdown, so she called the police. Rebecca demands to know why Wes is so obsessed with Rudy – she thinks it is because he feels guilty about Sam. She offers to turn herself in but Sam wont hear it.
Bonnie gets a tip that the judge is getting ready to issue a warrant to search Annalise’s house, she warns Annalise and she orders Bonnie to go down to the court house and contest the warrant. She warns Bonnie not to screw it up, she can’t defend herself because it is a conflict of interest. Bonnie heads to court and Hannah takes the witness stand – she describes in detail a fight that Annalise and Sam had three years ago when she saw Annalise throw a paper weight at Sam at a party and call him a “piece of shit.” Bonnie tries to cross-examine Hannah, and Hannah makes a fool of her in front of the entire court.
The police arrive at Annalise’s house to search it, Wes, Laurel, Michaela, and Connor stand outside and watch and argue – Connor is certain that Ananlise wanted the house to be searched and she is setting them up. While they are bickering, Hannah walks up to the house to watch and taunts them and Annalise. Annalise storms inside with Bonnie to watch the police and CSI team search her house for fingerprints and blood. The police leave empty-handed, and don’t find a trace of blood. Bonnie catches Annalise and Frank sharing glances at the floor where they cleaned up the blood – she can tell something is going on.
Annalise calls Connor in to his office when she hears him ranting to the other students that Annalise is setting them up and should be grieving. Annalise calls him in to her office, she tells him to say what he needs to say to her face. Connor whines that they can’t trust Annalise, she is supposed to be protecting them and she doesn’t even talk to them. Annalise explains to Connor that the reason she gave him a trophy the first day of class is because he is just like her, and they are both warriors. She understands that it is not in his nature to trust her – but he can stop worrying.
Laurel gets a lead on Paul’s case. A worker at the dock named Pedro quit the day after the raid, and he lied and said he was going out of the country but he is still in New Jersey. Annalise orders them to go find Pedro – stat. That night Annalise calls Nate and he gives her a pep-talk, she whines that everyone thinks she is guilty.
Annalise heads to court and she calls Pedro up to testify, she asks him why of all the thousands of containers he chose to weigh Leo’s. Pedro spills the beans and says that he was instructed to choose Leo’s container, he says that he was promised a green card for him and his wife by Prosecutor Hobbs. Hobbs jumps up and yells that this is a conspiracy – Annalise yells that Hobbs cut corners and set up the Lombardo Family and he has been trying to take them down for years. The case is thrown out, and afterwards Hobbs threatens Annalise and warns her that the murder investigation isn’t going to go away.
At the office that night Bonnie tells Annalise that she read that coroner’s report and she knows that Sam was killed with the trophy, and the carpet fibers they found on Sam’s body will lead back to her house. Bonnie knows that the law students killed Sam, she warns Annalise that they aren’t going to get away with it and they keep sneaking off to talk about it. She warns Annalise not to let the students bring her down with them.
The next day the police call Annalise in for questioning, she decides to finally talk to the police. They show her a photo of evidence that they found in the woods with Sam’s body. It’s not Michaela’s ring – Annalise says that it is Sam’s ring and she gave it to him as a gift.
The police show up at Nate’s house and arrest him for the murder of Annalise’s husband Sam.
