Ian Somerhalder teased Nina Dobrev’s return to ‘The Vampire Diaries’ to save TVD, and Nina is still furious. Ian, clearly worried the show will be cancelled without Dobrev, has been hinting that her character, Elena, might return to stir up more trouble for Mystic Falls. Those hints were just bait to try and keep viewers tuned in and Nina is furious Ian used her to create buzz for the failing show.
Before season 7 of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ began, the cast would drop hints that Elena was simply sleeping and could return at any time. Ian Somerhalder would lead the charge in teasing fans of Nina Dobrev’s possible return to TVD. Ian told MTV News at the 2015 San Diego Comic Con, “She’s still there, dude. She’s in a casket; she’s having a nap.”
However, Nina asserted she would not be returning to ‘The Vampire Diaries’ in several interviews and even gave a somewhat emotional speech at the 2015 Teen Choice Awards underlining the fact that she will not be reappearing on TVD. Dobrev was furious Ian and the rest of her former cast mates would use her to try and keep an interest in the show. Nina made it very clear – repeatedly – that she would not return to TVD under any circumstance…even cancellation.
Now that rating for the CW show are plummeting, Somerhalder is getting nervous. ‘The Vampire Diaries’ has been moved to Friday nights – which is notorious for being the kiss of death for shows, especially shows with a large younger fan base.
Despite the fact TVD seems to be teetering on the edge of cancellation, Nina Dobrev refuses to return. It’s likely she doesn’t want to work with her ex-boyfriend and his possessive wife, Nikki Reed. Or, Dobrev is very aware the move would make her post-The Vampire Diaries career look like a failure. Either way, Nina is not happy Ian and the cast of TVD teased her possible return to try and keep viewers interested.
