Iggy Azalea has cancelled her appearance at Pittsburgh Pride Parade, although at this point she didn’t have much choice. If Iggy were to show up at the LGBTQ event, there was a good chance she would be run out of town and booed off from the stage. When it was announced that Iggy would be performing at the pride parade, some upset members pulled up old tweets from Iggy in which she used the words “dyke” and “homo,” they even began a petition to have her pulled from the pride parade show.
On Monday, June 8 Iggy Azalea took to Twitter and announced that after all of the backlash, she had opted to cancel her performance all together – and insists it is for the good of the community. Because, you know, the best way to prove that you aren’t a bigot towards gays and lesbians is to not show up.
Iggy tweeted this message to her fans, “I am truly disappointed that I have to share this news, but I will no longer be performing at Pittsburgh Pride on June 13th. This has been a difficult decision as I truly support the event and LGBTIQA communities, however I feel my participation at this point would only serve to further distract from the true purpose of the event. I am a firm believer in equality. Unfortunately in the past as a young person, I used words I should not have. The last thing I want is for something so carelessly said to be interpreted as reflective of my character. I am sorry to anyone I have offended or disappointed, and I wish all of my fans and friends participating in Pride the best of luck.”
Iggy Azalea’s career is sinking faster than the Titanic – right before our own eyes. Just last week she announced that she was cancelling her already postponed “Great Escape Tour,” which didn’t go over well with fans. Now, she is under fire for homophobic slurs, and just cancelled another appearance. At this rate, Iggy needs to do some serious publicity damage control before she fades into pop-star oblivion.
Do you think Iggy made the right choice cancelling the pride parade appearance? Or was not showing up the worst thing she could have done at this point? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
