Surprise, surprise, Johnny Depp is reportedly leaving his longtime film agent after a disastrous run of films. I mean, The Tourist, Transcendence, and now Mortdecai? Apparently, Johnny is planning to leave his longtime agent, United Talent Agency’s Tracey Jacobs, and figuring out where to go next. One move he’s considering is signing with Rick Yorn, who manages both Scarlett Johansson and Leonardo DiCaprio, both of whom couldn’t be any hotter right now.
Of course, when you consider that Tracey Jacobs has been with him since she first discovered him in 21 Jump Street and then turned him into a big movie star, it’s pretty sad that he’s planning on ditching her. And while I still think that Johnny Depp is in a full blown mid-life crisis, I think he’s right here in wanting to change agents. Yes, a big part of him doing these terrible movies is because he decided to do them – nobody else. But it IS the agent who brings the scripts over to the actors, and ultimately convinces them to reject or take a role. For all intents and purposes, apparently Johnny took all these roles as a way to make an extra paycheck, even though you’d think that those Pirates of the Caribbean movies are enough to pay for all of his private islands.
Again, this isn’t guaranteed, especially since Johnny has been open in his appreciation for Tracey Jacobs before, even writing in a letter to Variety in 2005, “You believed in me when no one else did. You stuck by me through great difficulties, ugliness and beauty while others turned away.”
And unfortunately, Johnny’s not doing the same, is he? The minute the going got tough, Johnny is getting going. And, for all we know, leaving Tracey Jacobs might not even solve anything.
