Famous singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell is currently in intensive care after being found in her Los Angeles home on Tuesday afternoon, unconscious and unresponsive. Reports are not clear about what health conditions or illnesses she has, but she was immediately rushed to the hospital after being found.
Her team has already released a statement on her website confirming that she “regained consciousness on the ambulance ride to an LA area hospital. Joni is currently in intensive care undergoing tests and is awake and in good spirits.”
Los Angeles fire department officials wouldn’t confirm that they had found Joni Mitchell unconscious, but they did say that they answered a 911 call in Bel Air and had taken a patient to a hospital.
So far, what we know about Joni Mitchell’s pre-existing medical and health conditions is very little, but she did admit back in December [to Billboard Magazine] that she had a rare skin condition called Morgellons disease that prevented her from performing. At the time, she stated, “I can’t sing any more – don’t miss it. I can’t play any more – don’t miss it. I’ve got all these instruments laying around and hopefully one day I’ll pick them up.”
However, Morgellons is a controversial disease in that some people believe that it’s psychiatric, and some people believe that it’s a skin condition. Plus, there’s no confirmation that it had anything to do with Joni’s hospitalization. She is 71 years old, so it very easily could have been another health condition that we knew nothing about.
Several high-profile musicians and public figures have already taken to Twitter to express their support for Joni, including Billy Idol, who tweeted, “Sorry to hear today’s news about Joni Mitchell. I sang on her ‘Dancing Clown’ single many moons ago, all the best 4 her recovery.”
Everyone here at CDL wishes Joni a speedy and safe recovery!
