Anna Wintour reportedly wants Kate Middleton for the September issue of Vogue Magazine, something that will never happen in a million years. Anna Wintour downgraded her brand when she allowed Kim Kardashian onto her cover, and Vogue isn’t going to recover from the ignominy of that so quickly. Queen Elizabeth and Camilla Parker-Bowles have already let Prince William know that forbid The Duchess of Cambridge from having to do with Vogue. While Anna may have been convinced by Kanye West, she should have thought long and hard about the repercussions of that decision – and in the end, she chose money and attention over class and branding.
I mean, Kim Kardashian wasn’t let anywhere near the Vanity Fair Oscar party this weekend – that says something about the party, right? It’s high-class, super A-list, and no reality stars allowed. At one point, Vogue used to have the same cache, but that’s disappeared after Kim Kardashian tainted it. And that also means that whether Anna wants Kate Middleton to cover the magazine or not, there’s no way Queen Elizabeth will let Kate associate with the same magazine that once put a porn star turned D-list reality star on the cover.
Radar’s source explains, “Anna has been trying for the last two years to get Kate to agree and she’s always refused. But this time, Anna has stepped up the campaign, and is now enlisting her numerous high powered connections. Having Kate on the cover could silence all of the critics who were up in arms after Kim and Kanye appeared on the cover. Anna was very well aware that putting a reality star on the cover would alienate some diehard Vogue readers.”
At the end of the day, there’s no way the royal family would let this happen. For one, Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles are already far too envious of Kate Middleton’s clout with the public and a Vogue cover and make that even ‘worse.’ Sources tell CDL that they begged Queen Elizabeth to put pressure on Kate via Prince William to absolutely forbid Kate from participating. But even putting aside that part of the issue, Kate barely covers any magazine voluntarily, and I don’t see her breaking her tradition for Vogue. Maybe Time Magazine or something of that sort, but not Vogue. The royal family are already upset that Kate’s viewed as a fashion icon. Being featured on Vogue wouldn’t help her to escape from that image.
