Kylie Jenner posted photos of her in what appeared to be “blackface” and was, naturally, met with much controversy on social media. Kylie Jenner attracts controversy like Kirstie Alley attracts free buffets. The mini-Kardashian did the unthinkable when she posted “blackface” photos of herself on Instagram over the weekend. “Blackface” was a form of makeup used by theatre performers to “represent a black person” during the 19th century. The controversial caption read: “What I wish I looked like all the time.”
The backlash sent Kylie into a tailspin; she deleted the images and tweeted, “The photographer used a black light & neon lights for those photos. Yes, in another world I wish I could have pink hair & blue eyes & covered in sparkles. But in this world I’m happy [with] the way God created me. Happy Easter everybody.” On Instagram, she asked people to “calm down”. She even tagged the makeup artists in a last ditch attempt to reiterate her point. Pink hair, blue eyes and sparkles? Is this the Avatar-Twilight lovechild convention? Kylie, Kylie, Kylie… You naughty little minx you!
Karrueche Tran tweeted, “You’re beautiful just as you are girl”, followed by, “The point is… Nobody needs to wish they look like anything… We are all individually beautiful in our own way. Keep that s**t positive.”
Zendaya Coleman received a double-backlash when she jumped – and fell off – the politically (in)correct bandwagon. She liked the photo more than she should have. Only when people came at her with Twitter-pitchforks did she “realize” that it wasn’t cool to find it cool. Such an awkward activist isn’t she?
Perhaps we should all “calm down” for a bit and actually look at the photos before vomiting all over Twitter like a bunch of sad Donald Trump impersonators.
Is Kylie Jenner really that stupid?
I doubt it.
