Lemmy Kilmister Dead: Motorhead Lead Singer Dies at 70

Lemmy Kilmister is dead – the lead singer of the iconic metal band ‘Motorhead’ died on Tuesday December 28 2015. According to a report from TMZ, the 70 year old musician was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of cancer just a few days prior to his death – and he passed away in his home, “playing one of his favorite video games.”

Kilmister was the main vocalist and head songwriter for ‘Motorhead’ – and also was a member of the band ‘Hawkind.’

The official ‘Motorhead’ Facebook page confirmed founding member Lemmy Kilmister’s sad death on Tuesday, and they shared this heartfelt message with fans: “There is no easy way to say this…our mighty, noble friend Lemmy passed away today after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer,” the band wrote on Facebook. We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren’t words. We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please…play Motörhead loud, play Hawkwind loud, play Lemmy’s music LOUD.”

Ironically, Lemmy’s fellow ‘Motorhead’ band member Phil Taylor passed away just last month – after battling a long and grueling illness as well. It’s unclear exactly what kind of cancer Lemmy Kilmister was diagnosed with, but he was an avid drinker and smoker.

In recent months it was no secret that the rocker had health issues and his blood clots and heart problems were documented in the media in the days leading up to his 70th birthday on Christmas Eve.

It truly is a sad day for metal and rock music – and Lemmy Kilmister will be truly missed by ‘Motorhead’ and ‘Hawkind’ fans.
