Tonight’s episode of Madam Secretary kicks off with Russell Jackson at home having breakfast with his wife, who is also a doctor. Apparently he has high blood pressure, his wife is catering to him while he tests his blood pressure and frets that his job is going to wind up giving him a heart attack. After she leaves for work, Russell hops on the treadmill and starts making phone calls. He receives an email from Admiral Ellen Hill announcing that she is retiring.
Nadine, Matt, and Blake arrive at the office early for a meeting with the head of cyber security – he is briefing them on their new email, banking, and social media passwords, they are tightening security at the white house. Shaw’s meeting is interrupted, he rushes off to meet with Elizabeth. Before he leaves, Shaw tells Daisy that he has to cancel their date that night, he says that it is “complicated.”
Shaw rushes to a meeting with Elizabeth and President Dalton. They have been trying to track down Lasko, aka “Dash” – the hacker that was able to hack in to the president’s plane. They have intel that Lasko is hiding out in Cambodia. Craig Sterline recommends sending in the SEAL team that they have in the Phillippines to extract Lasko. Elizabeth shoots down his idea and tells the President that she thinks it would be better to send in a CIA-ops team. Elizabeth points out that if they go into Cambodia with guns blazing – it could jeopardize their relationship with China. Shaw points out that Elizabeth’s plan is better because they need Lasko to come back in one piece, and they need any data or information that he has on the US government.
Afterwards, Russell has a private meeting with Craig Sterling. They discuss Admiral Hill retiring. Russell reveals that he knows Craig tried to sabotage the Cuba deal. Russell propositions he and Craig work together to ice out Elizabeth, Russell says that she is bad for reelection, and frankly he just doesn’t like her. Russell thinks that he and Craig should get General Reeves in to the Admiral position, he wants him to tell the President that he is the right man for the job. Craig is not a fan of being bullied, he tells Russell that he will vet him and decide whether he is the right man for the job.
Afterwards, Russell has a secret meeting with Elizabeth and Mike B. Russell reveals that he baited Craig Sterling and now they just have to wait to “gut him like a pig.” Russell rants that he wants Craig gone – “Traitors are like serial killers.” Elizabeth thinks that they should just go to Dalton and tell him that Craig tried to sabotage their treaty with Cuba. She tells Russell that if his plan doesn’t work and he doesn’t get Craig out of office, she is coming clean to Dalton.

They find a dead body inside – the victim was killed via Palonium Poisoning, which is a popular method of assassination in Russia. Russia was obviously behind the attack on Air Force One, and now they are covering their tracks by killing Lasko. Dalton announces that he plans on retaliating against Russia, he tells his men to get plans of attack on his desk in 12 hours.
Henry meets up with his handler and learns that Dmitri never picked up the cell phone in Russia. He is upset when he learns that they have written Dmitri off – they think that he has been discovered as a spy or has defected. Henry isn’t buying it, he thinks something has happened, he believes that Dmitri is still on board and wants to reach out to him – that’s not allowed though.
At work the next day Shaw invites Daisy on a date to a wine tasting – he wants to spend the whole day with her. Daisy lies and says that she has plans, and tells Shaw that she will call him and let him know when she has free time. Shaw can tell that she is blowing him off because she thinks that he blew her off.
Mike B. visits Vanessa in the park and reminds her that she owes him a favor. There’s an opening in Public Affairs at the Pentagon, it’s exactly the kind of position she needs to get closer to the White House. Mike bribes Vanessa to call Craig Sterling – she says that she is doing a profile on General Reeves, and asks him if it is true that Reeves bribed him to get the new spot. Craig barges in to Russell’s office and accuses him of setting him up. Russell insists he had nothing to do with it, Craig believes that Elizabeth is behind it. Russell tells Craig that he is going to “have to handle it.”

He won’t listen – he tells Elizabeth she has 8 hours to get American personel out of Moscow. Russell tells Elizabeth that it is her job to “fall in line.”
Henry has the photos from Dmitri – he meets with his handler and shares the photos. They also received a hand-written note from Dmitri saying that he is “out.” Henry thinks that he is going to flee to Sweden to seek asylum and be with his sister.
