Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder broke up two years ago, and Ian has since moved on with Nikki Reed. In fact, he’s moved on so quickly – or so drastically, depending on your outlook – that he and Nikki have already gotten engaged, despite having only started dating a few months ago. In contrast, Ian was with Nina for several years, and no such engagement happened. Sure, rumors suggest that it was because Nina Dobrev turned down Ian Somerhalder’s proposal, but if that was the case, then there are obviously tons of unresolved feelings between the two.
Following that same thread of logic, it’s not impossible to consider the fact that Nina and Ian might get back together. Yes, Ian is currently engaged to Nikki Reed, but how many couples in Hollywood break up before their marriage – or even after their marriage? From everything we’ve heard, it truly seems as though Nina and Ian were completely enamored with each other, and the biggest reason for their breakup was that they wanted different things out of their future. Nina wanted a solid movie career and the freedom to explore every opportunity that came her way, whereas Ian wanted to get married and start a family. He’s obviously convinced Nikki Reed to do that with him, but their age difference is significantly smaller than it was with Ian and Nina.
Either way, Nina and Ian have reportedly finally started talking again on the set of The Vampire Diaries, but their proximity might be making Nikki uncomfortable. In fact, many sources are saying that Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder are getting so touchy-feely that the possibility of a reunion isn’t completely ridiculous. But even if they’re thinking about a reunion and an affair, they realize that cheating on Nikki Reed and then reuniting publicly might cause too strong of a backlash – especially after the way they got together, when it was rumored that Ian cheated on his ex-girlfriend to start dating Nina.
