An unexpected face from the past has managed to pull Finch away from a case on tonight’s all new episode. And although dodging bullets and spies aren’t generally his field of interest – Finch told Reece to stick with their POI number while he handles Claire’s return on his own.

Claire was once a hacker Finch had tried to protect yet in spite of his best efforts she did eventually join Samaritan. And, unfortunately, she found out the hard way they were in fact the people she thought saving the world from. It seems she had thought they were helping others and even saving the world when they first got to her to join them. But soon she found out the people they were murdering weren’t actually “enemies of the state”. They were just normal everyday people. Like the computer engineer that was assassinated after he had visited his grandchild for the first time.

So when she relayed this story to Finch – he then had to decide how much he should let her in on.

He could have remained on the fence and even protect himself in the long run, but in the end he chose to tell her about Samaritan. And that’s a complicated story all on its own. Thankfully, however, an A.I. that’s controlling everything can kind of make sense to a computer hacker.

Hence, Claire and Finch made an alliance of sorts. She told him she had information on the group that she was working for and he said he was going to protect her. Yet that all changed the instant he looked into the computer engineer she had described and found out the man hadn’t been poisoned. But was involved in a car accident.

So Finch or at least the new Finch that is was simply going to leave her to Samaritan.

If she was spy then her mission failed and she would probably be terminated. And if she wasn’t, well, that was the risk he was prepared to take. So Finch was just going to leave her to Samaritan knowing she was going to die either way.

But then Claire said something. She told him what else was in the engineer’s official file and before she did that – she practically begged Finch not to leave her to die.

Then, elsewhere, Reece and Fusco ended up running into some trouble of their own. The POI they were supposed to be protecting was actually an underground MMA fighter by night and 9to 5 girl during the day. So out of the two – you would think her night job would be the reason why someone would attack her. yet the truth is anything but.

Anna works at an office that runs a program that is essentially like Siri for IPhones. And one day a man by the name of Paul Zimmerman asked his voice automatic search engine for phone numbers to a suicide hotline. Now according to Anna, the voice should have listed several numbers but it chose instead to give Paul instructions about how to die peaceful and even set up accounts so that his family would be taken care of when his gone.

So it was the automated service that pushed him into killing himself and Anna was the one that had found out about it. At the time, right after Paul had died; she passed on his case to her superiors but then was surprised when they didn’t act on it.

Then again she didn’t know it was her bosses that were manipulating the automated voice because they were setting up ways to make advertising more susceptible. That’s just how greedy they were!

And in this instance Reece and Fusco, acting as cops and not vigilantes, were able to save Anna from her former boss and also stop her company from continuing to manipulate people but as it turns out they were all played. Because just as the company realized it needed a face lift – Samaritan approached them about doing good work to recover their once wholesome image.

And speaking of Samaritan, Claire played Finch as well. Apparently she never saw the light and she was still involved in the secret organization.

Sadly for her, Claire honestly believes Samaritan merely wants to save the world. That it wants to wipe out poverty and disease. So at first she tried to convert Finch over to her side and when that didn’t work she was going to bring him forcibly in. However Root came back.

Root came blazing in and wiping out agents. She would have gotten Claire too but the younger girl proved to be faster on her feet.

THE END!
