Prince Charles has just returned from a fairly successful [for his standards] tour of the United States, and he’s finally started stepping into his role as future monarch and King of England. However, there is just one thing stopping him from completing his image makeover into the dutiful future king of England, and that’s his younger brother, Prince Andrew. Charles has somehow managed to overcome the Princess Diana scandal, even though it took him decades to do so in the eyes of the public. And even though the public has finally accepted Camilla Parker-Bowles, the Prince Andrew sex scandal has once again cast a shadow on the royal family’s reputation.
Prince William, Kate Middleton, and [duh] Prince George have escaped from the scandal relatively unscathed, largely because they have very little to do with Andrew and also because the public loves them. However, Prince Charles hasn’t been so lucky, which is why his relationship with his younger brother has seemingly become so icy over the past few months.
From what we’re hearing, neither Charles nor Andrew have ever been particularly close to each other, although they’ve always maintained a cordial relationship. But in the wake of Prince Andrew’s underage sex scandal and all the drama that followed, royal sources have claimed that Charles has cut contact with his brother completely. Apparently, Charles is furious that Andrew’s private shenanigans are affecting the royals and more specifically, his image. Meanwhile, Andrew is upset that Charles is trying to push him off the ‘center stage’ and keep him hidden to the side, where he won’t be as much of an embarrassment to the royals.
At the end of the day, Prince Charles wants to be in power, and he’s going to edge out both Prince Andrew and Prince Edward in that process, minimizing their roles in the monarchy as much as possible. The question is – will Andrew hold enough of a grudge to go public with all the dirt he has on Charles?
