R. Kelly stormed off the set of a recent HuffPost Live interview, obviously angered by the line of questioning about past allegations regarding his sexual relations with underage girls.
Naturally, R. Kelly has been working the publicity circuit in anticipation of the release of The Buffet, his 13th studio album. During a recent videotaped interview with HuffPost Live, the line of questioning started sounding a bit more like an interrogation when the interviewer began asking R. Kelly a few questions about his rather scandalous past.
While speaking to R. Kelly, HuffPo host Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani brought up the past allegations against Kelly that he was filmed having sex with an underage girl. The question came from tweet and said, “What do you say to fans who are conflicted?” referring to allegations that are now 15 years old. Kelly responded directly to the host and said, “F*** that! I’m a man that believes what I see. And everywhere I go, from malls to restaurants to sold-out tours … everywhere I’ve been, I get nothing but love.”
Obviously upset by the mention of his past legal troubles, R. Kelly continued, “When I start to hear what I just heard you sit here and say to me when I step on that stage … from 20,000 to 50,000 fans, I will never show up to that venue or any other venue again but until then, I’m going to continue to do R. Kelly. I’m not perfect, but I’m perfectly me.”
The entire interview was recorded, including the part where R. Kelly stormed off set. Which is why it’s so entertaining that the Huff Po account of what happened is so different from pretty much every other report.
The Huffington Post report on R. Kelly’s mid-interview meltdown was described as a “bizarre 20 minute interview” where Kelly swore and tried to humiliate the interviewer before stomping off the stage. The write up claims that Kelly got upset when asked how old claims made against him impact album sales. In reality, the R&B singer was asked to respond to fans who may hesitate to buy R. Kelly’s new The Buffet album because of the old accusations.
Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani was obviously not impressed with the answer and continued grilling Kelly for several minutes and arguing about her intent. That is why he began to react so defensively to the interviewer. When Kelly responded to Modarressy-Tehrani by asking her if she drinks or does she know what a deposition is, that was because R. Kelly could not believe the woman was asking him questions related to the 15-year-old allegations of which he had already been acquitted. Kelly obviously felt like he was being deposed and he would know!
The interview with HuffPost Live did end abruptly when R Kelly stormed off set at around the 20 minute mark but the only bizarre part about it was that they wouldn’t ask questions about something else.
