#Reign begins with Don Carlos and Mary talking. He says he can tell she loved Francis but says Scotland can’t wait. He tells her she’s doing her duty as queen. He says he’s the most enchanting of potential brides he’s met. He proposes a game for her but she declines and asks him to meet her for tea later.

Mary approaches Catherine to talk about her fight to be Regent. Catherine says she won’t forget what she’s done and asks about Don Carlos. Mary says he’s kind and Catherine says he’s not Francis then tells her not to feel guilty and Francis knew she would have to do this.

Mary gets a letter from her brother James. He says Elizabeth has withdrawn her troops from Scotland as well. Mary says Elizabeth will still not make peace and Catherine urges her to make the marriage. Catherine asks the privy council for a Regent vote.

Narcisse says they will vote when they are ready. Catherine reminds them with her as Regent, she gets a woman with her female frailties makes an excellent scapegoat. She also remind them she has experience. Narcisse offers a motion to confirm Catherine as Regent tomorrow. It passes.

Catherine waits for Narcisse in the hall and she asks if he’s ready to negotiate terms for his council vote. She says he’s popular with the nobles and his vote is valuable. She says he can be Lord Chancellor if he makes her Regent. She flirts but he says that was a one-time thing. He walks away.

A servant was listening. Christophe comes to see her – he was the one listening. He asks if she likes Narcisse for pleasure but she says it’s all about power. He pulls down her dress and kisses her neck. She says she likes how he takes her without any care for her station.

She says no one can know about this and he says he stacks firewood but his head isn’t filled with it. Mary meets the new ambassador Gideon Blackburn. He has a transcriber taking the notes. He says he doesn’t want to botch the job like Nicholas did.

He says she is beautiful and says he’s not sure who is more stunning – she or Elizabeth. Mary says Elizabeth is making a mistake keeping troops on the Scottish border instead of making peace. Gideon says they can’t let Don Carlos marry the Queen of Scots.

He writes a letter to Don Carlos threatening to tattle on him to his father about his escapades if he doesn’t leave immediately. Don Carlos goes to Mary and says he has to return to Spain and won’t come back. Mary says she thought the courtship was going well.

He makes the excuse of saying her heart is not ready for another marriage. Delphine tells Bash he seems far away and he says he’s frustrated that he can’t find the killer. Delphine says she knows he’s sad about Francis but he says don’t use her gift to look into his head.

He says he lost his king, friend and brother at once. Bash is told they found another body near the village. The woman’s heart was torn out – she’s been dead for weeks. Delphine starts to freak and says she can feel his hatred and bloodlust.

She says the killer has plans for tonight. Francis’ organs will be interred and Father Morel does the honors. The others talk about what an awful tradition it is. Narcisse tells Lola he can be Lord Chancellor but she says that would put him close to Catherine who can’t be trusted.

He says Catherine will be too busy to deal with petty revenge. Lola says she doesn’t trust Catherine with him since they were once lovers. He asks if it’s him she doesn’t trust and he says he made a vow to her and will keep it. He says this is once in a lifetime.

He is angry and Lola says they have so much and he has leverage from his place on the council. She asks what more he needs. Catherine and Mary note all the belongings Don Carlos has. Catherine tells Mary that Scotland needs Spain. She says he’s distant.

Mary tells her about the courting game where men hunt women in the woods for a kiss. Catherine says it’s just a game. Catherine says he wants to see she can let go of her grief and tells Mary to give him a chance to warm her heart.

Mary says he seems to be concerned with his luggage. Mary has his luggage taken to the wine cellar and says not to tell him it arrived until she gives the order. Delphine takes Bash to a village and says killer walked here. She describes the new heart and the woman.

She says he will take her heart here and they see it’s Greer’s tavern. They wonder if Greer is his target. Bash goes to talk to Greer and tells her to close for the night. Greer says won’t he just come back another night. Her girls want to fight back.

The women convince Bash to set a trap for the killer. Mary finds Don Carlos and says she thought he was leaving. He says he’s waiting on his baggage still. She offers to play the hound and hare game but he says he needs to leave and she says she didn’t know it was important to him.

She says he can chase her later and he says in his version of the game, she gets to chase him. She asks why chase him and he says she’ll find out if she catches him. Greer and Bash prepare the set up to trap the killer. Don Carlos has several ladies and men for the game.

Catherine is there to play too as is Narcisse, Lola and others. Gideon is upset that Don Carlos has not to run off. The men run off as the hares. The women watch them go. Now the women run off to chase them. Catherine finds Christophe in the woods and says it’s a game for nobles.

He kisses her and she says he tests limits. He pulls her into the trees and kisses her. She asks what he wants from being her lover. He says he wants to be under her skirt with nobles nearby. Some women start to catch their men. Mary is still looking for Don Carlos.

She hides behind a bush and sees him running by. She steps into the creek then slips. She hurts her foot and limps back to shore. She grabs up a stick to help her then calls out to Don Carlos. Narcisse is nearby and spots Catherine with the servant.

Mary hobbles along and is startled by someone. She pulls a knife and Gideon is there. He says you’re not supposed to stab a hare. He says her ankle needs treatment and picks her up in his arms. She’s outraged and he says this is not what he had in mind either.

Gideon carries Mary along and gets tired. He sets her down and says she’s light as a feather but asks for a minute to catch his breath. He says he knows she’s the last person he can trust but says Don Carlos will bring her more trouble. He says the man has a dark secret.

He says Don Carlos was ejected from Austria for that reason. She asks what the terrible secret is and he says he knows it’s some sort of sexual secret – some object he brought with him very likely. That’s what caused him to be kicked out of Austria.

Greer sits with Leith as they wait for the killer to show up. He asks if she’s frightened and she says a little. She asks about the pin on his cloak. She says it was Claude’s and asks if it’s a lady’s favor. He says please keep it to herself and says the relationship is new.

She says she hoped he would find someone special and he says it’s not that simple since she’s so much above him. Greer says they both have had strange encounters. Narcisse comes to Catherine’s bed chamber. She asks if he’s there to tell her how much he loves his wife.

He says he saw her with the servant boy in the woods. He says anyone could have seen and she says he liked watching and talks about how tireless and hungry her young servant is. She tells him if he wants more power and pleasure, take it.

Narcisse says she can have his vote if she discards that plaything. She tells him to take what he wants so he takes her. Bash worries that it’s almost dawn and no new customer has arrived. Bash tells the men they have done all they can and they prepare to leave.

Greer cleans up the tavern then calls to Leith about his cloak. She steps outside with it and calls to him. The man is there following behind. Delphine says she can feel him again. They are upstairs. Greer tells the man to stay away and she screams and fights.

Bash hears the scream and runs to help. Bash knocks him down and he says he thinks it was just a drunk not the killer. Delphine is there in the tavern still and calls out for Bash. The man is inside and comes at her with a knife. She screams then something overtakes her and he backs off gasping.

Bash comes in and tells her it’s all right. She’s terrified and he rocks her in his arms. Greer is in her chambers looking at her baby bump. It must be Leith’s child since she was with him last. Mary goes to the wine cellar to look into Don Carlos’ luggage.

He shows up and says he waited three hours in the woods. He says she hid his luggage. She says she’s entitled to answers. He says he agrees and offers to show her. He opens the case and shows her what’s inside. He says it’s a sex horse but that’s just a name.

He says it fulfills his desires. He says his partner puts him in it and whips him. He says he needs a woman who can inflict pain and give him what he needs. She asks if it’s dangerous and says there are already rumors and his father and the Vatican can find out.

She asks if he really needs it. He says he would give her kindness and she would give him pain. He asks her to try it one time. He says just try it for Scotland. Mary says she wants something else in a marriage then says she just can’t. She walks away.

Delphine tells Bash she didn’t see his face and was too scared to turn. He asks why the killer spared her life. She says it wasn’t about Greer – it was about her. She says now she has to get away from here. She says when he touched her, he lost his instincts to kill for a moment.

She says now she has the sensation to kill Bash. He says he wants her to stay. He says when he lets anyone in, he gets heart. He says this is a risk but he wants to try it. He asks her to risk it all with him. They kiss. Catherine shows up for the Regent vote.

Narcisse greets her and they vote to confirm her as Regent. He make a motion and there is a second hesitantly. The priest comes in and says they found proof that he was poisoned. She says the doctors confirmed he wasn’t. He says his blackened liver proves it.

The council suspects Catherine of the poisoning crime. They tell her that it must be investigate. Narcisse offers a speech and then offers himself as Regent and says it’s only until King Charles comes of age. Catherine calls him a usurper. The vote passes quickly.

Narcisse is Regent. He says he hopes he will rule his country well. He says – long live France. Catherine rants to Mary about the charges and Narcisse’s power play. She tells Mary to wed Don Carlos now. She says never mind the peculiarities.

Mary says there are other options. Catherine asks what it is and Mary says he has a contraption and he wants her to hurt him. Catherine says do the test run then marry him. She says with Spain in her pocket, she can survive. Catherine offers to help her.

Mary comes to see Don Carlos. She straps him into the device and he tells her tighter. He says take the whip. She offers him a blindfold then tells him she’s almost ready. She lets Catherine into the room then says she’s making sure the door is locked.

He says create a scenario and says tell me why I must be punished. She says she’s disappointed and says he’s been a bad man. He says he has. She says he must face his punishment and suffer. Catherine beats him hard. He tries to get loose of the sex device and falls.

He kills himself. The women step away. Catherine says don’t look and says he’s dead. She says the wrath of his father will come down on them. He got up and is loose in the castle still alive. Mary and Catherine hide and wonder what they can do now.

THE END!
