The cast, crew, and fans of the hit comedy Everybody Loves Raymond are still reeling over the shocking suicide death of 19 year old Sawyer Sweeten. Sawyer played the part of Geoffrey Barone, one of Ray Ramona’s on-screen sons on the long-running comedy. News broke on April 23 that while visiting family in Texas Sawyer took his own life and committed suicide via a gunshot wound to his head.
Sawyer’s real-life sister Madylin Sweeten, who coincidentally also played the part of his on-screen sister Ally Barone issued an official statement on her little brother Sawyer’s tragic suicide to Radar Online, “This morning a terrible family tragedy has occurred. We are devastated to report that our beloved brother, son, and friend, Sawyer Sweeten, took his own life. He was weeks away from his 20th birthday.
At this sensitive time our family requests privacy, and we beg of you to reach out to the ones you love.”
Since news of Sawyer Sweeten’s suicide broke, there has been an outpouring of support from the cast of Everybody Loves Raymond, although the comedy was cancelled in 2005 – the cast was very tight-knit after filming together for 9 years. Patricia Heaton, who played Sawyer’s mother Debra on Everybody Loves Raymond tweeted this heartfelt message, “Sawyer Sweeten was a funny and exceptionally bright young man. He is gone from us far too soon,” posted Patricia on Twitter. “The entire cast of #EverybodyLovesRaymond is in shock. Prayers for the Sweeten family.”
Funnyman Ray Romano was also equally shocked and upset by Sawyer Sweeten’s unexpected death, after playing the teen’s father for many year on the sitcom. Romano commented, “I am shocked, and terribly saddened, by the news. He was a wonderful and sweet kid to be around. Just a great energy whenever he was there. My heart breaks for him, his family, and his friends during this very difficult time.”
