Sha Na Na Singer Jon 'Bowzer' Bauman Giving Back To The People: Promotes Senior Citizen’s Rights and Social Security
Sha Na Na singer and superstar Jon “Bowzer” Bauman is using his celebrity status to give back to the people that made him the world renowned musician that he is today. We love hearing about celebrities that use their fame and influences to give back to society and try to make the world a better place – and Jon Bauman is doing just that. Jon, aka “Bowzer” rose to fame in the 1950’s as a member of the trail-blazing rock’n’roll band, and went on to be an eccentric member of the TV show. In 1980 Bauman decided to leave Sha Na Na and branch out in to a solo career – and he now headlines a new band, “Bowzer and the Stingrays” that appears at local venues and amusement parks.

After a long and successful career, Jon “Bowzer” Bauman is 67 years old – and instead of nesting with his family and retiring, the singer has devoted his free time to being an activist for senior citizens – the same senior citizens that helped him sell countless records in the 1950’s and helped him rise to rock’n’roll infamy.

According to the March 16th edition of GLOBE Magazine, “The 67 year old entertainer is lending his voice to help political candidates and organizations who vow to protect and advance the rights of older Americans. As the co-founder of the political action committee Senior Votes Count the progressive activist has travelled the country stumping for dozens of candidates who champion Social Security and Medicare.” GLOBE goes on to explain that in 2012 Jon Bauman even served on the National Committee To Preserve Social Security and Medicare.”

It really is a shame when celebrities let their voice and influences go to waste – instead of giving back to the people that helped them get to the top. Sha Na Na’s Jon “Bowzer” Bauman is a perfect example of celebrities giving back to the people. What do you think of Bauman’s dedication to senior citizen’s rights? Let us know in the comments below!
