Is Taraji P. Henson quitting FOX’s hit new series Empire? Seriously, we can all agree there is no Empire without Cookie Lyon. When Empire first debuted, no one anticipated the severity of how huge the show was going to be. Sure, they had a star-studded cast and an impressive music library – but when the ratings started rolling in, even the show’s producers and cast were shocked by the magnitude of it all. Considering how huge the show turned out to be, it’s no surprised that Taraji P. Henson wanted a raise for Season 2 – but the producers are not even willing to negotiate with her.
According to one of In Touch Magazine’s inside sources, “When Taraji found out what her co-stars got she threw a fit. She feels that she should be compensated much more as the star of the show. She attempted to meet with the producers to renegotiate, but they flat out said “no.” She was livid.” This happens every time a new TV show turns out to be a huge success, everyone thinks that they are entitled to more money – but in Taraji P. Henson’s case, she might have a legitimate point. We can all agree that Taraji basically made the show with her character Cookie, so she definitely has some leverage; if she walks, then FOX could be in trouble.
So far, Taraji P. Henson is still on board with Empire, and Season 2 is set to premiere in September 2015. But there is no telling how much longer she will stick around if the producers don’t agree to her re-negotiations. Do you think that Taraji is being a diva, or is she entitled to more money than the rest of the cast? If Taraji did quit the show, do you think Empire would survive without her as Cookie Lyons?
