Terrence Howard and his ex-wife Michelle Ghent are currently embroiled in a volatile public battle over his spousal support. According to Terrence, the only reason he gave his ex-wife such a rich spousal support deal was because she blackmailed him with naked photos and videos that he feared would damage or end his career – you know, more than his Iron Man firing already did. Or you know, it’s because there were accusations that he beat up his wife…
TMZ’s sources explain that Terrence Howard made a formal claim in April, and that he wants to end her spousal support after proving that she blackmailed him into the current situation. Granted, Michelle could end up releasing the pictures anyway [one of which allegedly shows Terrence in the shower], but after all the naked photo scandals over the last year, I think Hollywood has proved that naked photos don’t need to end anybody’s career anymore.
Technically, Terrence claims that Michelle Howard was only entitled to a half-year of spousal support, since the marriage lasted only one year. Usually, the standard law is to limit the spousal support to half the marriage period, but Michelle ended up getting five years of support.
Terrence claims that number is the result of blackmail, whereas Michelle has yet to respond to Terrence’s allegations. However, if Terrence has proof that Michelle did blackmail him, then I don’t see how she’s going to get away with this. At the same time, why did Terrence Howard agree to pay the support and then backtrack only now? Did something happen between them that caused him to change his mind? Perhaps Michelle asked for even more money, or perhaps she tried blackmailing him again. Or perhaps Terrence just realized that he didn’t want to be giving away so much of his money when he could take her to court and not give her anything…
