Tonight’s episode of The Blacklist kicks off with two men in a cemetery digging up lot #332. A police officer arrives and demands to know what they are doing – the two men beat him to death with a shovel. Leter in the morgue they sell the dead body of Marjorie Lin to a buyer – they reassure him that she is 24 years old and clean of all diseases just as he requested.
At the warehouse Elizabeth is showing Tom Keen photos she took on her cell phone of the little girl in the pictures that were at Red’s house. She has run the photo through all of the databases and she hasn’t gotten any matches. She tells Tom that she is certain the little girl in the picture is her, and the woman holding her is her mother. Tom asks if that means Red is her father? Elizabeth is certain he isn’t her father, her father died when she was 4. Tom notices the woman in the picture is wearing a Russian ring, just like the one that Berlin used to wear.
Meanwhile, Red is working on decoding the Folcrom. Elizabeth pays him a visit – Red is mad that she was at his apartment while he was shot. Red scoffs and asks her if she discovered any secrets at his apartment. Red gives Elizabeth a stack of papers and a death certificate for a Chinese woman named Leann Mall. He explains that the smuggler faked her death and he is actually sending Marjorie Lin’s body. Red reveals that the smuggler, Quon Zhang was working for the Kabalm. Elizabeth tells Red he doesn’t have to worry about the Kabalm because she made an arrangement with the Director – he tells Liz her arrangement is null and void, all she did was expose herself and put herself in to danger. Red says they have to find the smuggler so they can take down the Kabalm.
At the FBI office Elizabeth briefs her team, she thinks that the smuggler could be using Marjorie’s body to get explosives back to China. But, they have to wait until he files a ticket with the airline to transport the body before they can bust him. Meanwhile in the morgue the creepy smuggler is caressing dead Marjorie Lin’s face.
Red takes Dembe to the park to go for a walk as part of his rehab. He learns that Jasper is gone and he skipped town. Red orders Dembe to take Jasper’s boat out a few miles in to the ocean and blow it up so that everyone thinks he is dead. Red knows that within hours Jasper’s stocks will start to go crazy – he is sure that Jasper will resurface and make sure everyone knows he isn’t dead so that his ex-wives can’t get his money.
Harold finds Connoly waiting in his office – he is freaking out because there were witnesses that saw Red get shot. Connolly looks like a fool because there is one of FBI’s Most Wanted running around DC and he isn’t all over it. He orders Harold to fabricate and leak a document to the press to make it look like Connolly’s team is taking care of Red.
At the FBI office the smuggler finally files a ticket to put the coffin on the airplane, Ressler and the team rush to the airport where the coffin is being searched for explosives. They use a robot to search the coffin – but there aren’t any explosives inside, just Marjorie’s body. The FBI orders the airport employees to cut open Marjorie’s body and make sure there aren’t any explosives inside her. A doctor puts on a safety suit and cuts open Marjorie’s body – Ressler is perplexed when the doctor reveals that the body is clear, there is nothing inside of her either.
Tom is doing a little bit of recon of his own for Liz, he tracks down another man that he knew that used to work for Berlin. He shows him a picture of the little girl on the phone – the guy insists he doesn’t know who the girl is and then begins beating him. Liz arrives in the knick of time to save Tom. She pulls her gun on the other guy and demands to know who the girl in the picture is, he whimpers that he was sworn to secrecy. Elizabeth storms out of the office and checks the guestbook – she sees the name “Bill Kershaw” and shouts “son of a bitch!” Elizabeth heads straight to Red’s apartment and begins ransacking it.
Elizabeth finds a camera inside the apartment and begins shouting in to it – Red watches her crazy rant on his tablet from another location. Elizabeth shouts in to the camera that she knows all of Red’s secrets that are inside of his apartment and she is going to expose every last one of them unless he starts telling her the truth. Red call Elizabeth on her phone and says that she has made her point – he is ready to discuss the photograph.
Red heads to the apartment and sits down with Elizabeth, he explains that the woman holding the little girl is named Katerina – she was a KGB Agent, the girl’s name is Maja. Red explains that both of Elizabeth’s parents were involved in foreign intelligence, he admits that after the fire he had a doctor block her memory. Elizabeth demands to know if Red killed her father because he was in love with her mother? She begs Red to tell the truth – he refuses, she promises that she will find out the truth for herself and storms out.
At the office Ressler and the team are trying to make sense of why the smuggler wanted Marjorie Lin’s body – they realize that her teeth were changed before she died to fudge her dental records. They found out that the work was done by a dentist in the US named Henry McGlassman – they get an address for his office and rush out to find him. Elizabeth and Ressler head to the dentist’s office and it looks like the creepy morgue where the smuggler was caressing Marjorie’s body. The office appears to be abandoned, but there are two Chinese women’s bodies that look like ridiculously life-like mannequins.
They do some research and realize that the Chinese women are part of folk lore called “Ghost Brides,” apparently the smuggler was selling “mail order corpse brides” and sending them back to China. They realize that one of the creepy life-like dolls was made to look just like Marjorie, the other women is unfamiliar though – they realize that they are about to steal another body. Apparently in China, young single Asian women are hard to come by when they are dead – and their corpses are in high-demand in China. Liz and Ressler also find a briefcase full of $100,000.
They run traces on the money and realize that they were all printed specifically without any 4s in the serial number, because 4’s are bad luck in China. They are actually worth $5 for every $1, they track the specially made prosperity notes to a wealthy Chinese Family that is worth billions. Apparently their son Jin just committed suicide because his soon to be wife, Anbai, left him at the altar and moved to Washington. Liz and Ressler realize that Anbai is the smuggler’s next victim, he is going to kill her and mail her back to China – Jin’s family wants her to be buried with their son Jin.
Red gets his hands on Kenneth and calls Samar to come torture him for her – he asks Kenneth what the Director is planning for him and Elizabeth, Kenneth insists that he doesn’t know the details of any of the Director’s plans. Red orders Samar to pull out Kenneth’s teeth – and leaves the room because he gets queasy. After Red leaves, Samar cuts Kenneth loose and says that the Director ordered her to get him out of there safely. In the car Kenneth raves about how great it is to have her on the inside, he thinks that they are working together and spills the beans about the Director’s plan and his target on a “defense installation.” Samar turns the car around and drives him back to Red – she just played Kenneth, she isn’t really working for the Director.
Meanwhile, Liz and Ressler are rushing to Anbai’s house to try and beat the smuggler there – they are trying to reach her on the phone and there is no answer. Aman gets Anbai on the phone and tells her that she is in danger, he tells her to lock her door – she is too late though, the smuggler is already in the house. He attacks Anbai and hangs up on Amar. Two police arrive outside the house, the smuggler runs them down with Anbai’s car – but Liz and Ressler arrive in the nick of time and manage to save Anbai and take the smuggler in to custody.
Liz sits down with the smuggler in the interrogation room – he explains that he was in a fire, and the ghost bride story isn’t just an old myth. The smuggler’s brother died, and then he haunted his family and killed their parents with fires. The smuggler stole the body of a young woman and buried her beside his brother, and then the fires stopped and the bad luck was gone. Liz doesn’t want to hear about the ghost stories, she wants to know about the Kabal. The smuggler admits that he was supposed to make a delivery to the Kabal, he was supposed to deliver them an agent named Caricut – and he already has been delivered. The smuggler scoffs that Elizabeth’s “bad luck is just beginning.”
Harold corners Connolly and tells him that he “wants out.” He is tired of Tom using the clinical cancer treatments as leverage to make him do whatever he needs. Tom Connolly scoffs that Harold is way off base, and reveals that the Kabal is pulling his strings, and therefore pulling Harold’s strings. Tom reminds Harold that he has already committed multiple crimes for him and the Director – and they own him now. Tom warns Harold that they won’t hesitate to take out him or his wife.
The Director is sitting at his desk and he is delivered a package – it has a cell phone in it. The Director answers the phone and Red is on the other end. Inside the box is Jasper’s tongue, Red sneers that Jasper couldn’t “hold his tongue,” the Director is disgusted and hangs up on him.
Tonight’s episode ends with Red calling Elizabeth while she is sitting in her car, she forwards his call to voicemail and refuses to speak to him. Elizabeth shows up on Tom’s doorstep dripping wet in the middle of the night, he walks out in the rain and hugs her and comforts her.
