Tonight on the CW their drama, The Originals continues with an all new Monday April 20, season 2 episode 19 called “When the Levee Breaks,” and we have your weekly recap below. On tonight’s episode, Dahlia [Claudia Black] gives Klaus [Joseph Morgan] and Hayley [Phoebe Tonkin] a deadline for turning over baby Hope, and they each devise dangerous plans in their fight against her.
On the last episode, Klaus came face-to-face with a deadly threat when he tried to vanquish Dahlia. Meanwhile, Elijah and Marcel prepared a safe house in Algiers with help from Josephine; Jackson approached Hayley with a risky idea; and Aiden became torn between his loyalty to Jackson and his secret alliance with Klaus. On tonight’s episode as per the CW synopsis, “Dahlia gives Klaus and Hayley a deadline for turning over baby Hope, and they each devise dangerous plans in their fight against her. Meanwhile, Freya gives Rebekah and Elijah an ultimatum; and Marcel considers how to best deal with Klaus’ erratic behavior.”

#TheOriginals starts with Klaus asking Elijah what’s the matter and he wants to talk strategy. He asks about Mikael’s ashes and where they’ve gone to. Klaus says it’s not his concern and Rebekah tells them to shut up because she’s hung over. She says it’s not every day your brother kills your father again. Klaus says opportunity knocks more than once and thinks they should be happier. Elijah says they have a greater threat than Mikael in Dahlia. He says he alienated Freya in killing their father.
Rebekah sides with Elijah and thinks Klaus ruined everything. He says he knows what they face and has a plan to deal with it personally. They hear footsteps and go investigate. It’s Josephine who has a scarf over her slashed neck. She says she has a message from his Aunt Dahlia that they owe a debt to her in Hope. Josephine says Esther is to blame if they must blame someone. She says their very existence is due to that bargain.
Elijah realizes Dahlia is speaking through Josephine and she says she came for what is hers. She says it’s time to add the child’s power to her own and says she can tell the child is being cloaked. She tells them they have until nightfall tomorrow. Blood seeps from her neck wound and she says to inform the child’s mother so they can be civilized. Klaus knocks the head from Josephine’s body and smirks. Hayley updates Jackson on the Dahlia situation.
She says Dahlia is tracking them based on Hope’s magic and the spell on this place is all that’s protecting them. Hayley says all this isn’t fair on Hope since she’s so small. Hayley wonders if they can stop Hope from using magic and says she has an idea. Aiden says he wants to help since it’s his fault they didn’t get away yesterday. He asks to make it up to them. Freya is at the cemetery when Rebekah finds her and says she’s sorry but Freya says she knows only she loved Mikael.
Freya says because of Klaus she’s lost her father again. Rebekah says Mikael was never kind to the rest of them and says he was cruel especially to Klaus. Freya says it’s no excuse but Rebekah says it is and says Klaus is her best ally to gain her freedom from Dahlia. Freya says Klaus treats her like the enemy and she’s worked hard to earn their trust but Klaus rejects her. She tells Rebekah she shouldn’t trust him either. She says it’s Klaus or her and both Rebekah and Elijah must decide.
Klaus is painting when Elijah tells him there’s no time for this. Klaus refuses to share the location of the ashes. Klaus says he can’t tell him his plans since he’ll run to Freya. Klaus says Freya, Hayley and Jackson cannot be trusted. Elijah says he can trust him but Klaus says he hasn’t been the same since Esther got inside his head. Elijah says Freya is blood and wants Dahlia dead as well. Klaus says as far as they know, Freya may have wakened Dahlia.
Aiden gets the magic chains from the compound but Klaus walks in on him. He tells him to get back to the jazz club and be his eyes and ears. Aiden says he came back for Hope’s stuffed bunny. He goes to walk out and Klaus says if he finds he can’t trust him, he’ll kill him. Aiden takes the magic dampening manacles to Davina to try and transfer their power to another object. Josh doesn’t think that Klaus bought Aiden’s story. Davina agrees to help so Hayley and Jack can run away safely.
Davina says if Klaus finds out, Aiden is toast, but he says that’s on him. Hayley sits with Hope when she sees plants blooming along the walls – they’re dahlias! Hayley says she must know that they’re there. Dahlia is outside the club killing off people and getting ready to take the baby. Marcel tells Rebekah that Klaus has a plan and says it will work out. Elijah shows up to see Freya and says he has something for the marker she built for their father and hands her Mikael’s knife.
He says Klaus stole it and used it to carve little wooden figures for them. He says art was a sanctuary for Klaus’ hard life. He says she wants the strength that comes from family and says he and Klaus will defeat Dahlia and would prefer her by their side. She doesn’t think they can and he says if she leaves, she’ll live in solitude. Camille shows up to see Klaus and he asks if Elijah sent her to play therapist. She begs him to talk to her about what’s going on.
Dahlia throws opens the doors and admires Hope in Hayley’s arms but finds if she comes in, she won’t have her magic. Dahlia says she only wanted to see the child and says she can tell the protective spell is growing weaker already. Dahlia says Esther made this bargain and it’s sad she’s been dragged into it. Hayley says Dahlia has a choice and doesn’t have to do this but Dahlia says that child is hers and says if she denies her, it will mean her death.
Dahlia says Freya is dramatic and says their life together was not a bad thing. She says Hope won’t even remember them and will have a good life with Dahlia. Hope cries once Hayley threatens Dahlia and gets all vampy hybrid on her. Dahlia says not to waste her final hours with her daughter like this and says goodbye for now then leaves. Camille and Klaus go out to talk and she tells him he should have compassion for Freya. He says he’s Mikael’s son and that means Freya is as dangerous as Dahlia.
Camille says Mikael raised him and he says he killed him and says he thought they might be allies and had their first good day together and he put a stake through his heart. Camille asks if it’s because Mikael said he loved Freya and Klaus says it’s just what he does and tells her he’s a bad person. Aiden tells Josh he loves him and then says he’s going to come clean to Jackson about spying for Klaus. Josh is worried and asks him to just go away with him.
Aiden says he’s a pack guy and Josh is his pack now. Aiden agrees to meet him in two hours to leave town together. Josh tells him yes and Aiden is near tears. Aww. This won’t end well. No one gets a happy ending around Klaus! Josh tells him he loves him too and they part ways with a plan to meet up to leave town shortly. Davina is surprised by Marcel and she tells him not to sneak up on her. He says he just came to check on her and says he didn’t like Kol for her.
Davina says she appreciates him saving her from Eva but says he never asked how she felt after Kol died and says that was the worst thing and when she needed him most. Marcel says he’s sorry he wasn’t there for her but says Klaus is their problem now. He asks about the weapon they can use against Klaus. He says with Dahlia around, Klaus is off the rails. She says Kol gave her the dagger and she’ll be the one to decide if it gets used. She asks him to leave.
Klaus finds Elijah and says to leave off getting Camille to give him therapy. Klaus is annoyed that Elijah still wants to use Freya. Klaus says Freya let Finn go and Elijah says he was close to killing Klaus just a couple of years ago and they’re both still alive and family. He says he knows they can defeat Dahlia without Freya. Klaus says if he’ll give up Freya, he’ll let him in. Elijah says Hope is his family too and says he’ll do whatever it takes to end this. Klaus tell him to choose Freya or him.
Aiden gives Jackson a silver chain to put on the baby to dampen her magic. Then he admits he didn’t pick him up because he was working for Klaus. Jackson forgives him and says he’ll always be part of the pack. Aiden says to take care of himself and watch his back with Klaus. He hugs Aiden. Dahlia watches from nearby. Elijah and Klaus shows up and Hayley says that Dahlia killed a bunch of the guards. She says she and Jack are taking Hope to the bayou to hide with the wolves.
Hayley says she’s doing what she wants with her daughter but Klaus says it’s not happening. Elijah says this is playing into Dahlia’s hands. Klaus says he’s been forging a new path and knows how to kill Dahlia. Aiden buys some flowers for Josh then sees them wilt in his hands. Dahlia walks up on him and calls him sweet boy and says it’s time to get started. She pulls him along with magic and says it will be over quickly. She says he’ll be the tipping point to set Mikaelson against Mikaelson.
She attacks him and asks why she’s doing this. She says she needs to make it look convincing and she rips his heart out with magic. She holds it in her hand then throws it down by his dead body. Davina walks with Josh and he tells her he and Aiden will move somewhere cool that she’ll want to visit. She says she’s happy for them and would visit anywhere. They walk by the alley where Aiden lies dead. Josh freaks out and sees slashes on his face and tries to feed him his blood.
He cries Aiden’s name then breaks down sobbing. Davina looks around angrily. Jackson shows up carrying Aiden’s body screaming Klaus’ name. Jack says Aiden was spying on them for Klaus and then Klaus killed him. Everyone in the room, Elijah included, stares at Klaus. He takes credit for it and says this is what happens to those who betray him. He says this wouldn’t have happened if Aiden had a real alpha. Jackson attacks and Klaus throws him off. Then Hayley comes at him and Klaus slaps her down.
Elijah steps between them but to protect Klaus, not Hayley. He tells Klaus to go work on his plan and he goes. Davina shows up to see Marcel and Rebekah. She’s upset and says Josh left when Jackson came for Aiden’s body. He goes to her and takes her in his arms. Rebekah thinks Klaus has gone crazy doing this. Davina sobs and says she has something for him and hands him the stake she and Kol made that can take out Klaus. She says she wants them to put Klaus down. Rebekah takes it from her.
Jackson wraps the chain on Hope’s wrist. Hayley chews out Elijah for defending Klaus. She says he needs to let them go. She says she has a way to protect Hope in the swamp. She says they can’t run from Dahlia and Klaus at the same time. She asks him to buy them some time. Camille finds Klaus and asks to tell her that he didn’t kill that sweet boy. He says she already heard and says he’s the immortal bastard. She says maybe he was right and says maybe Freya is really out to get him.
She says Freya didn’t just kill Aiden and didn’t murder an innocent guy. Klaus says he didn’t either. Camille is stunned and asks why he said he did. He says Hayley will question her pack’s loyalty and he says he needs the pack to fear him to keep them from running. She asks if she should fear him too and he says that will be better for her. He talks sweet to her and touches her face. Then says he’s not a better man and can’t protect her for lies. He says it’s a truth that no one will believe about Aiden.
Klaus finds Elijah and he says the ashes are in the paint. Klaus asks why he’s not guarding Hayley and Elijah says she and Jackson took Hayley and left. Klaus explodes and attacks Elijah. He tells him he can’t win a fight against him. Elijah puts the deadly stake into his heart. Rebekah is there and watches Klaus go down. Freya is there as well. They watch as Klaus fades, turns gray and keels over. Elijah is horrified at what they’ve done. The bells of the church chime loudly.
