#TheOriginals begins with baby Hope in her car seat fussing and Dahlia drawing a chalk circle to do some magic. Klaus asks what’s taking so long and she says they can begin now. She says once she and Klaus are linked and she unlinks herself from Freya then a single drop of Hope’s blood will link her to her power. Dahlia says when the moon is at its apex, she’ll kill Freya and her bond with Hope will be permanent. She and Klaus claps hands and she chants. They are linked.
Elijah covers Gia’s charred body. He asks Cami about Klaus’ plan then says they had a plan too. Cami says it wouldn’t have worked so he had to make his own. Cami says he’s getting Dahlia to link to him. Hope cries as the spell works between the two of them. Their blood runs from goblets toward each other. Cami says she had to convince Elijah that’s he’s buying time to find the right ingredients to kill her. The spell is done and Hope coos.
Dahlia says with his strength she’ll never have to sleep again. He says perhaps one more nap then daggers himself. She falls down and collapses with him. Hope cries and cries. Freya wakes beside the crying baby. Marcel lies Rebekah’s borrowed body down and opens the coffin with her other one. He whispers – come on – waiting for her to come back to life. She doesn’t and he freaks but then she sits up. He lifts her out of the coffin and says it was one hell of a gamble.
Marcel says Klaus compelled him to hurt her because he knows what she means to him. Rebekah looks at the witch’s body. The phone rings – it says Klaus. She answers. Cami tells Elijah she’s sorry about her friend and says she doesn’t condone Klaus’ actions. Elijah rants and asks what he’s done with Hayley. Rebekah is there in her body and says Klaus had a lot on his to do list. Marcel says Klaus stole the crescent spell. Rebekah says they will find and help her but says they have work to do today.
She says Freya called and has Hope and Dahlia is incapacitated. Elijah zips there with vampire speed. Elijah says nothing good ever occurs when his brother is concerned except for Hope. Freya says she found them that way when she woke. Elijah says Klaus believes their ingredients were incorrect. He says they needed the blood of the witch she loved most which is not Freya, but Esther. Freya says she killed Esther but he says only one incarnation. He says Klaus wants them to revive her original body.
Vincent shows up and finds Davina prepping a spell. He asks if she wants to waste her one big surge of power on Kol. She’s certain. Vincent says to be careful but she says Kol is not like the others. He says families fight but the Mikaelsons always back each other and tells her to watch her back. Rebekah asks if they really have to dig up their mother and says if they use the ash Davina wants she’ll be furious. Freya wants to just kill Klaus with the white oak stake and have done.
Marcel says that will kill all the vampires he’s sired then Rebekah says the dagger is melting. Elijah says they have no choice but to follow Klaus’ plan. Rebekah and Elijah go dig up dear old mummy. He pours gas on the coffin and Rebekah says she’d rather raise Kol. Elijah says they have to go see Davina and he suggests tricking her to ensure her assistance. Rebekah says she feels like a traitor because she promised to stay a witch until she could bring back Kol.
She says Nik robbed her of her chance to ever create life and now has to take it again. Rebekah says Klaus stole Hayley from him last night and he asks where’s the happiness she deserves. Rebekah says everything they love they turn to ash and sets the coffin on fire. Freya and Marcel are looking for Kol’s ashes. She asks if he’s sure Klaus’ plan will work. She tosses a toothpick into a whiskey tumbler and does a little spell. It points her to a piece of molding.
She presses it and it opens and there’s the white oak stake. Marcel also finds the ash jar but it’s empty. He says they have to stop the dagger from melting and says he thinks he know who took the ashes and says it’s a problem. Davina is ready to work the spell and says it will be weird seeing Kol’s original face. Rebekah shows up and says he was handsome. Davina asks about her big promise. Rebekah says she has loved Kol for many lifetimes and will help him no matter what flesh she’s in. Davina asks what happened and she says Klaus happened and wanted her in a more durable body to deal with Dahlia.
She asks Davina for her help and says the only witch strong enough to kill Dahlia is their mother. Davina says she’s using her magic to bring back Kol and hits Rebekah with magic and says they are all liars except for Kol. Freya chants to try and stop the dagger from melting. She tells Marcel it’s no use and she can’t slow Dahlia’s magic. Freya hears a noise and they see vines growing along the stair rails. Marcel says there has to be a way to kill her. Freya has the white oak stake and says there is.
Marcel tries to stop her but she slaps him back with magic. Davina dumps Kol’s ashes out and starts chanting. Marcel begs Freya to stop and says they can find another way. She says she doesn’t know another way. Davina chants. Freya is ready to stab Klaus and says she doesn’t want to kill him or Klaus. Davina’s spells works and a body begins to rise. It’s a woman’s hand. Freya says she longed for a family but will be alone because of Dahlia. Klaus grabs her hand and calls her sister. He’s awake.
Dahlia sits up – she’s awake as well. Davina is shocked to see a woman and asks who the hell she is. It’s Esther! Rebekah is there and Davina asks what she did but Elijah says it was him – he swapped the ashes – his mother’s for Kol’s. Davina rants and says this is why Kol hates them. Rebekah says they’ll get Kol back but not today. He tells their mother – welcome back. Dahlia is furious and magics the stake from Freya’s hand.
She says the link between them melted with the dagger and she’s free to kill Klaus. Marcel stops her and they rush to Hope’s room just as one of the vines pricks the baby’s hand and gets the needed drop of blood. Marcel says he’ll go look for Dahlia and says he needs to guard Hope. Vincent wakes up and Davina says Elijah tricked her. Marcel shows up and asks if her war against the Originals can wait one day. He says if you’re not a Mikaelson, you’re cannon fodder.
He asks her to find Dahlia and says if she kills them all, everyone Marcel turned dies and Marcel too. He begs her to help him now so they can live to fight another day. Marcel texts Klaus and says he found the witch. Cami shows up and rants at Klaus about biting her and making her force his plan on his family. Klaus says he needs her to protect Hope there where there is no magic. He tells her he’s sorry and says he’ll make it up to her.
Cami nods her acceptance. Esther asks Elijah if he brought her back to torture her. He says they just need her blood but he doesn’t mine torturing her. Klaus shows up and says he’s there to enjoy another of her deaths. He tells Elijah he’s there to save the day and tells Elijah not to let his red door swing open. He says he needs Esther’s blood on the that blade because it has the other ingredients. He tells Esther he’ll slaughter them both. Rebekah shows up and says Esther has no choice.
Then she says they’re all dancing puppets in Klaus’ end of days show. Klaus says they left him no choice by fighting him at every turn. Elijah asks about Hayley and Klaus says it was collateral damage. Elijah bashes him in the face and says it was punishment for the dagger. Elijah says he brought that on himself and says once again Klaus has broken his family. He says he will never see Elijah by his side again no matter the outcome. He says if Klaus wants to be alone, he has his wish.
Elijah yanks Esther’s chains and tells her to come along. Elijah looks sick and hurt. Vincent meets with Cami to help watch Hope. He pours a whiskey and reminds Cami she brought the baby to a bar and asks why she thinks she owes them. He reminds her has a couple of psych degrees and asks why she’s in such a dangerous place. She says her family has a legacy there. He talks about his family of witches and how he walked away from magic. She says he’s dumping his responsibility on a teenager.
He says if Davina isn’t careful, she’ll be the wickedest of them all and Cami says that’s why he should teach her. Cami admits she has complicated feelings for a monster despite all common sense. He asks fi the monster has complicated feelings for her and she says it’s likely. He says they need more booze. She laughs. Dahlia hauls Freya to a spot where she says the city hung traitors and freezes her there with magic then says it will be her slaughtering grounds.
Freya says she pities her and says her ability to love died long ago. Dahlia says darkness is born from the snuffing out of light. Dahlia says all she saw when she looked at Freya was the sister who turned her heart to stone and says she will use that stone to crush everyone. Klaus shows up and says something about stones and glass houses. Rebekah is there too and Dahlia mocks him for bringing vampires to a witch fight. He says he took the lesson to heart and Elijah drags in Esther in chains.
Dahlia is stunned – so is Esther. She says her sister in chains then laughs and asks if she’s a gift to buy their freedom. She says she brought something too and has the white oak stake. Klaus says that’s only one stake for three vampires. She says it’s small thinking then holds it up and it shatters into small flakes. She pushes the fragments towards them and they all start choking. Esther looks at this and Freya begs her not to kill them.
Dahlia says they can watch together as she burns her children from the inside out. Esther says she still has so much anger at her after all these years. Dahlia says she broke her vow and left to marry that Viking brute. She says those children are the result. Esther looks at them. They are dying. Esther says she made her bargain away her first born child and Dahlia says every first born and even then she tried to deny it. Klaus has the magical knife but can’t use it.
Dahlia tells Esther to say goodbye to the last of her children. She chokes Freya. All four of her children are writhing in pain. Esther asks her to wait and says she won. She says she has everything she ever wanted including a first born of a new generation. She says she bested them all and asks to try and make amends. She throws her chains around Dahlia’s neck to choke her, Freya breaks the circle and Esther calls for Elijah. He tosses the knife to Klaus who runs both of them through with it.
Esther and Dahlia are young again and elsewhere. Esther begs her to forgive her for not standing by her side and they embrace. Dahlia forgives her and they hug in whatever afterlife they’re in. In this life, we see they’re embracing but it looks like they are both just ash. Klaus says they’re officially orphans now. Next day, their ashes blow away from the killing yard and Marcel with Elijah sets fire to their bodies of their dead.
The Mikaelsons sit down to a family dinner but only Klaus and Rebekah are there. He says the rest of the family is enjoying the fruits of his labor. He says Freya is free of Dahlia and he’s going to give Elijah the keys to the city since he’s tired of it and says he’s going to raise his child with his sisters’ help. Rebekah asks what the child’s mother will be doing while he does that and says this is not what happiness looks like. She walks out of the room and he’s alone at the table.
Rebekah goes to Freya. She tells Rebekah that now that she can choose her own fate, she wants Rebekah to have the same. She has the other body in the coffin and says Rebekah can inhabit it again if she wants and says she can choose vampire or witch. Freya says Rebekah was the first to see her as her sister and she deserves a sister to look after her. She tells Rebekah to be free. Marcel takes a call from Rebekah and asks if she chose the new model or the OG. He heads outside.
She’s the new model! She says she decided not to decide just yet and says she’s going to use this body for now while she tries to find a way to help Kol. Marcel says he’s going to try and not start a war with Klaus – she says some things change, some don’t. He kisses her. She gets in her car to drive away. Klaus lurks in Cami’s bar and says his sister left him again. She tells him to stop compelling customers away and says she needs the tips. He slaps down a hundred and she says that’s how they met.
She says it could have been another waitress. He says he doesn’t see it that way and says he would have found her someone in the Quarter somehow. He says he would have found her – he then thanks her for the drink and walks out. He almost kissed her and she looks at a loss that he didn’t. He pauses outside looking pained. Elijah stands in the bayou when Hayley shows up – it’s the full moon. They embrace and she asks about Hope. He says she’s safe and well. He promises her he’ll release her from this.
Hayley says she can’t let Klaus be the only thing Hope knows and makes him promise to be there with Hope. She says her daughter needs him. Klaus rocks Hope and tells her a story about a wolf king who fought a war for a precious treasure – his little princess. He says victory came at a price and says he lost allies. We see Davina working magic while he says he made new enemies. He says the wolf king stood alone and says it was not happily ever after.
Klaus says sometimes even the worst endings aren’t really endings at all. Elijah shows up at the house as Klaus pours a drink. Klaus is shocked. Klaus calls Hope his littlest wolf and says there is always another chapter to be told.
THE END!
