#TheRoyals begins with Jasper pacing the halls then coming into Eleanor’s room. He says he’s there just for her – not diamonds or another woman. He says she has power over him. She slaps him. He was just considering it.
He thinks about another approach – telling her he wishes he could go back and do it differently, then apologizes to her and asks forgiveness. Another slap. He visualizes many different approaches that all end in slaps.
He’s woken from his sleep and stares at a video of himself on the security camera stopping but not knocking on her door. Liam is with him searching for images of the girl who put the necklace on him that night.
We see Helena lying sadly in bed when Alexandra rudely wakes her and says she needs to protect the monarchy before it’s put to an end. She chews her out for sleeping in her clothes and makeup and talks about Cyrus and his low-born bimbo.
She says the last fling of a dying man can be dangerous. She tells her to get up and wear bigger earrings to distract from her wrinkles. Eleanor also lies in bed – her mother wakes her too and Eleanor throws a bottle of vodka at her.
Eleanor says next time throw a better bottle and says she’s taking her to see Charlie Jones for her birthday. Liam points out one girl and tells Jasper to print the screen shot. They go see Holden and show him the photo.
Holden says he doesn’t know the girl but knows the other with her. He nudges the blankets and a girl pokes her head out. He asks Zoe if she knows her. She says she does. Liam looks serious. Ted gets a notice from domino telling him to come to an address ASAP.
The newspaper has a scandalous story on the cover. It’s about cartoonist Levi Drew. Cyrus look at stories about people protesting the monarchy. Violet advises him to tell the public he’s dying but he says she’s being naïve.
He tells her he loves her and says he’s 45 and now how he feels. Zoe tells Liam she met her last night and can’t remember her name. She says she’s into tattoos. She says the girl got inked down in Bow.
Helena and Eleanor go see Charlie, her horse. Helena says she should have given her more attention growing up and says they’re having mother-daughter time. They go for a ride. Cyrus is chewed out by Rani about economic problems.
He says it’s her problem. Rani says he’s facing abolishment and says his brother put a bug in the people’s ear about it and she can bring it to a vote. She tells him to do something about it. Cyrus sasses her and walks away.
Helena and Eleanor chat over horses. Helena tells her she prayed for her mother to show her less attention as a kid and tells her that her anger was terrifying. She says she never wanted to crush Eleanor’s spirit like that.
She says that spirit will save her from the world she was born into. They mount their horses and Helena tells her she’d rather her fight her than be her machine. Eleanor gets on her horse and they head out for a ride.
Ted heads to the address with his gun out and finds a guy making soup. Ted keeps the gun out and asks him who he is and what he wants. The guy says he knows he killed Simon. Ted counts down from 10 and the man says he won’t shoot him.
He says Ted can’t be sure who else he’s told and tells him to put away the gun. He tells Ted again he knows he killed Simon then says he’s a student of human nature. He says he figured out motive then pushed his buttons.
He says Ted’s behavior showed “tells” and that’s how he knew but has no hard evidence on him. He says he’s not arresting Ted so he doesn’t need proof. He pours Ted a bowl of soup and says he needs him. Then he says shoot me or eat soup and listen.
Alexandra sits with Cyrus for tea. She asks him if Violet’s boobs are real. She tells him he’s upset the people. She says he’s made mistakes and needs to subjugate his subjects and she has a plan to help.
She tells him to get rid of Violet. She says the aristocracy considers her a joke and says – ditch the bitch. He says Violet is remarkable and also suggested a plan which he’s putting into action. Alexandra says she can’t wait to hear and Cyrus says she will have to wait.
He says he’s going to go fondle Violet’s boobs and write a speech. He walks out. She’s not happy. Helena and Eleanor slow to a walk and she asks her mother if Alexandra slept with her BFs too.
Helena tells her she forced Jasper to sleep with her to stop her from giving her heart to him. She says she knew if she fired him or told her no, she would have gone after him anyway. Eleanor says Helena did it to hurt her.
Helena says she was wrong but her daughter says she wasn’t. Liam comes into the tattoo shop with Jasper and the girl is there. He shows her the domino sketch. She writes out a note that it’s not safe to talk.
She gives him the name Dominique Stewart and says that’s all she’s got – good luck. He and Jasper leave. Ted still keeps the gun on the guy who presses on chatting. He asks the man why he thinks he can help him. The guy says he has a story he thinks Ted will like.
Liam goes to see his dad’s equerry. Liam asks if the name means anything to him and he says he knew her. He says she was Simon’s true love. The guy Ted is with is Dominique’s brother, Jeffrey Stewart! He says his sister was clever and Simon loved her.
He says when Simon took the throne, they made up a list of potential brides. The equerry tells Liam that Dominique made the list but he wouldn’t have cared if she was not. They were a perfect match. Jeffrey says his family was also pedigreed so it was a good.
He shows Liam a photo of Dominique and Simon with a horse. He says his father would cheer her on at competitions. Jeffrey says he couldn’t say her name when he was little, so he called her domino. OMG Domino!
Helena tells Eleanor about her one true love and it wasn’t Henry, the man she mentioned on TV. She says the man she loved worked on the family farm. The equerry says Helena wiggled her way onto the list of prospective brides.
Helena tells Eleanor she was going to elope with the boy she loved and picked out a pebble since he couldn’t afford a diamond. She tells her daughter she was in love and didn’t care about money then. She says her life was set.
Then she says life rarely goes according to plan. We see a flashback of Dominique riding her horse. We see Lacey giving Helena a pretty pebble. Then we see Dominique’s horse without her on the back and Jeffrey spots it.
He goes running and calling for Domino. Helena says fate didn’t care that she fell in love. Jeffrey says she was thrown from her horse and died a few hours later. Then the equerry says Simon had a duty to press on and he hid his pain and carried on.
He says the country was in a recession and a royal wedding would help the economy. Helena says Black Friday helped finish off the family finances and then all their hopes were pinned on her. She says her mother didn’t care she was in love with someone else.
We see Helena drop the pebble into the water and she says she has diamonds but would have been happy with a pebble. She says she did what her mother wanted and became queen. Eleanor says she made the right call and says to hell with love.
Helena says she told her this so she could find a happier life and find real love. Eleanor says she doesn’t have a chance. Helena says Jasper looks at her with love. Helena says she royally messed up her chance at love.
Eleanor tells her no one loves her for herself but who she is. Helena says it’s not true. Helena says she loves her just as she is and always has and always will. She kisses her head and holds her close.
Jeffrey tells Ted that his sister’s death destroyed his family and then says it wasn’t an accident. He says Dominique was in the way of someone. He says the aristocracy closed ranks and they lost everything – their honor, their money, all of it.
He tells Ted that their families deserve justice. He reminds Ted of how he lost his wife. Ted says if he did kill Simon, he’s already doing his dirty work. Jeffrey says death is too easy for Helena. He says she needs to live in a constant hell of grief and regret.
He wishes poverty and shame on Helena. Ted asks why now after all of this. He says he didn’t know he had an ally in the palace until Prince Robert was killed by an “accident.” He asks Ted isn’t it a relief to find someone who understands. Ted gives a small smile.
Helena tells Jasper he needs to make it up to Eleanor whatever it is he did to her. She tells him she’s rooting for him. Helena finds her mother lurking who asks where she is. Helena says it’s her birthday but Alexandra says her priorities are wrong.
She tells her that Cyrus picked out an engagement ring then says if Cyrus dies after wedding her, Violet could end up the reigning monarch. Alexandra says now she has to kiss her butt. She goes to greet Violet warmly as Helena glares.
Cyrus paces and then Violet comes in and says Alexandra was so nice. He says stay away from that witch. Violet says he’s only mean when he’s nervous and takes the booze away. He is upset she didn’t say she loved him too.
She says those are hard words to say. He says it’s okay if she doesn’t love him. She tells him he needs to relax and tells him a childhood story then goes to get something for him. He says he needs her but she says he doesn’t but will be back soon.
Then she says of course she loves him too and shuts the doors. Cyrus smiles happily. Violet leaves and Helena watches her go. Liam lurks waiting for the girl outside the tattoo shop. He says his father loved her. She tells him to come on.
She says that’s her aunt and says she was named after her. She says she was raised to hate him but when she met him he seemed like a broken person and not someone to hate. She says “we” and he asks who that is. She says it’s her father.
She says when Domino died, her aunt, the horse was hyper and had been drugged but it was tested too late to prove the crime. She says his family hosted the event and Domino was Helena’s rival. She says getting justice is the family business.
He asks if she’s born and bound into that revenge. He says do what you have to do. Then he asks if her father wants justice or revenge. He says his father and brother are dead and she says they had nothing at all to do with that.
Alexandra and Rani wait to watch Cyrus’ statement live. He won’t start without Violet. Helena comes in and says Violet is the frigging maid. He’s annoyed. Jeffrey’s daughter tells him she told Liam what he needed to know.
Eleanor sits looking at photos of her mom when she was younger. She smiles. Cyrus has to go live without Violet being there. Jasper watches security footage. He sees footage of Simon the night of his death and makes a call.
Ted goes into the royal archives and looks at some envelopes. Liam finds Eleanor looking at photo albums. She wishes him happy birthday. She asks what’s wrong. He broods and then sits by her.
He pulls out the photo of their mother from the same competition as Domino. He pieces the photo of Domino with Simon with that. He tells Eleanor he thinks Helena killed someone. Cyrus addresses the nation and says these are dark times.
He says people are wicked and he sees it all. He says he knows everything. He says if he finds out anyone against his rule, things will get worse. Helena and Alexandra are shocked. Cyrus says – long live the king. He strides out furiously.
THE END!
