Tonight on the CW The Vampire Diaries starring Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley continues with an all new Thursday October 29, season 7 episode 4 called “I Carry Your Heart With Me,” and we have your weekly recap and spoilers below. On tonight’s episode, an unexpected turn of events leaves Damon (Ian Somerhalder) scrambling and his actions gain the unwanted attention of Mary Louise (Teressa Liane) and Nora.(Scarlett Byrne)
On the last episode, Damon went on a road trip with Bonnie and Alaric to find something he can use against his mother; Caroline, who was being held hostage by the Heretics, learned some shocking information about Valerie’s past; Stefan learned a few unexpected detailed about his own past from Lily; Alaric turned to Bonnie for her help after coming clean about a secret he’s been keeping. On tonight’s episode as per the CW synopsis, “an unexpected turn of events leaves Damon scrambling and his actions gain the unwanted attention of Mary Louise and Nora, which forces Stefan and Caroline to spend the night distracting the girls at Whitmore College’s Heaven and Hell ball. Meanwhile, Enzo sets off on a mission to find out what Valerie is hiding; and a plan set by Alaric and Bonnie leaves their worlds turned upside down.”

#VampireDiaries begins with Alaric tinkering with a circuit board. He has a baby doll there too. Two little girls ask if it’s fixed yet. They giggle and Alaric says more surgery tomorrow. He tells the girls to get into their pajamas. The giggling dies down and Alaric calls out to them. He gets a gun out of the cabinet, worried at the silence. He girls are there and right behind them is Damon. He tells the kids they’re adorable and so is Alaric. He tells the kids to stay behind him. Damon says do as he says or bad things will happen. Damon asks if he’s going to invite him in.
Now, Alaric sits looking at the Phoenix Stone when the morgue guy comes in. Alaric asks him to go and hands him cash. The guy says he doesn’t want to know what sick thing he’s doing with his wife’s body and says even refrigerated bodies have an expiration date and Jo is on her last day. Lily calls Damon and asks to speak to Oscar. He says he’s asleep and Lily reminds him that Elena is still in a box and she calls him selfish. Damon says spare the lecture. Damon says this is not his first hostage swap then he sees that Oscar is gone. He says uh-oh.
He calls out for Oscar thinking he woke up and is lurking. He’s not. He’s dead and was shoved into a cabinet. Damon is stunned and says – you’ve got to be kidding. Bonnie wakes and grabs up stuff trying not to wake Caroline. They hug and Bonnie asks if she’ll catch fire touching her. Caroline says it’s just vampires since her skin is vervain. Caroline says let’s go shop for costumes but Bonnie says Alaric wants to try and resurrect his dead wife today and she needs to crush his dreams. Bonnie says there is no other side which means Jo’s spirit is not lurking around.
Stefan asks Damon how he let Oscar get killed. He says he didn’t kill the guy and Stefan says this does not look good and Elena is in more danger than ever. He says Damon is making bad decision about Elena even though he can’t be with her. Damon says he needs to get rid of the body. Valerie is cooking when Enzo comes in. She says she’s making mushroom omelets for Oscar who’s coming home today. Enzo comments about her coming home late. Lily says Damon didn’t show up for the hostage swap. She asks to speak to Valerie along about family business. He doesn’t like that and leaves.
Lily says she knows about her tryst back in 1863 with Stefan. Valerie says it was just puppy love. Valerie says she didn’t want to upset Lily who was more fragile back then. She asks why Valerie had to break his heart and she says she was a foolish human. Lily says to tell her anything else that she’s been holding back. Valerie insists she has nothing to hide. She says she should go look for Oscar. Lily says it’s not necessary. Nora and Mary Louise are on the college campus on a mission. Stefan and Damon are toting Oscar when the girls come knocking. They come in and tell them the dorm is lovely – then say it’s sad.
They ask where Oscar is and Damon says she just missed him. They tell Damon he reeks of blood and he says he’s been binging. Damon says Oscar knocked him out and took off. They say Oscar isn’t answering his phone and Damon reminds them he doesn’t want to be found. They don’t believe him. Mary Louise tells Nora they should go. They head outside and we see Oscar’s body is dangling out the window. He looks like a zombie costume. A dude dressed as a zombie also smiles. A woman shows up with a note – it’s from Nora and says dictated but not read. It says for every hour Oscar is not returned, a student will die, starting now. The girl kills herself. Damon says – oh no.
There’s a ghost tour taking place at the border of Mystic Falls. Matt tells the tour guide to pack it up and get out. Enzo is there and asks if the ghostbusters heard about the ghost at the clock tower. They leave and Matt threatens to shoot Enzo on the spot. Enzo wants Matt to let him see the town’s surveillance cameras and says he needs to track a heretic. Stefan brings Caroline coffee but her skin burns him when he hands it over. Caroline asks if he’s talked to Valerie and he says he assumes she’s over it. Caroline says she doubts it based on the spell Valerie hit her with.
Stefan says Nora and Mary Louise are on campus killing students. She agrees to help him pull one over on the two bad heretic girls. They run into Caroline and snatch a paper from her hand – she tells them it’s a party and no heretics allowed. She says only people who dress up as psychos can get in. Caroline mocks them and implies they can’t hang. They tell Caroline to give them clothes and she does then asks Mary Louse to take the spell off of her. She says she doesn’t want to get onto Val’s bad side and calls her fellow heretic a conniving shrew.
Stefan asks Nora the same favor but she also says she can’t do it because of Valerie’s insanity. Mary Louise and Nora bicker over Nora’s outfit and Nora kills another student in anger. Bonnie is with Alaric in the morgue. She says the visions from the stone scare her and says don’t rush me. Damon rushes in toting Oscar and says too bad, we have to bring this guy back to life right now. The party starts and Caroline is dressed super-sexy. He asks if she forgot to invite him and she says it’s not a great first date. He says this is torture then spots Mary Louise and Nora in their devil and angel costumes.
The bartender flirts with Mary Louise and Nora is annoyed. Bonnie tries to wake Oscar but the spell doesn’t work. Alaric and Damon bicker and Bonnie says to shut up and let her find the right spell. Stefan calls and asks Damon how much longer. Bonnie just set Oscar on fire accidentally and Damon says he thinks they’re close. Enzo comes in with a body and tells Valerie he knows she left town in a stolen car and thinks she was doing something with Oscar. He says he’s not sure if she was lying to Lily, killing Oscar, or both. She tells him to forget what he knows and he says enlighten him.
Enzo threatens to tell Lily and she says she killed Oscar to stop him from bringing Julian back into Lily’s life and says he was a monster. He doesn’t know who that is and she says he will want Julian as far away as possible especially if he wants Lily to love him the same way he loves her. Enzo looks thoughtful. Caroline tells Stefan about Nora and Mary Louise’s relationship drama. She says Nora wants room but Mary Louise is afraid to give it to her. But then the girls slow dance and Caroline says maybe she’s wrong. Caroline says if there was someone she could talk to.
He promises to talk Valerie as soon as Damon deals with Oscar. Caroline mocks him for postponing until they wake the dead. Caroline says she thinks he’s scared that he’ll still feel the same for Valerie once he sees her. Stefan says it sounds like that’s what she’s scared of, not him. Stefan notices the girls are missing. Mary Louise finds Nora in the back eating the bartender. Mary Louise rips the girl’s heart out and rants at her about her not adjusting to the new world and how she needs space – just like Caroline said. Bonnie tries another spell and then Oscar screams awake.
Damon says Bonnie is officially the most terrifying person he knows. Oscar is confused. Oscar asks where he is and how he got there. Damon snaps a selfie with Oscar and says smile for mommy. He says he needs blood and they wonder if the hunger comes along with the resurrection. Bonnie is still scared about the spell. She tells Damon to go get his girl while she goes to get Alaric’s. Enzo finds Lily brooding and she says she hasn’t heard from the girls. Enzo asks her about Julian and she asks where he heard the name. He says it’s a new name he heard. She says everyone liked Julian and he was a saint.
She says he was the love of her life. Enzo asks was or is. She gets the photo text and tells him Damon found Oscar. Mary Louise trolls through the party and sees lots of slutty angels. This sets her off. She goes for one and Stefan is in front of her. He shows her the pic and says – you’re done her. She says it’s excellent news. He asks where Nora is and she says she doesn’t know and she asks if everyone peddles their flesh like this and says Nora seems to like browsing. He recommends a therapist and she says she can’t prevent Nora from drifting away.
Stefan says Caroline thinks that Valerie being back doesn’t mean to him what Caroline thinks. Stefan says he could be with Caroline if she would take the spell off and knocks her out with a shot. Oscar is going nuts for more blood as Damon drives him back to Mystic Falls. Damon says after he gets him to Lily. Oscar rips the car door off, jumps out and runs off. Damon curses. Matt’s cop car pulls up at the site of a wreck. He says Oscar is on the loose and Matt says there are ghost tours going through town. Damon tells Matt his badge does not make him immortal. He says don’t take on heretics tonight.
Stefan has Nora held captive and tells Mary Louise to break the spell. She won’t and Caroline grabs her which makes her skin burn. She takes it off and Stefan and Caroline break both their necks then run to each other to kiss. Caroline says that was very satisfying. The ghost tour is in town and the guide says they’re on to the final stop. One guy asks when it will get scary. Then Oscar kicks in the windshield and grabs the tour guide out. Everyone applauds. They are less excited when he goes slaughtering the whole bus. Lily is there and tells him to chill out.
Damon is there and snaps his neck as Oscar comes for Lily. He tells Lily that her favorite sons are the ones with the Ripper problem. He recommends detox then asks where Elena is. Nora and Mary Louise come to and Mary Louise says she’ll kill them both. Nora smiles at her and says she’s adorable. They kiss. Mary Louise tells Nora she’s sorry and they both apologize. Nora says this world is meant to be enjoyed, not feared and asks Mary Louise to help her remember that. They start slow dancing.
Nora says tonight is theirs and Mystic Falls can wait. They dance on. Stefan and Caroline kiss their way into her room and she says it can’t happen yet. She says she’s not an insecure jealous GF and says she overthinks things. He says he knows. He says they have had more history in the past five years than most people had in a lifetime. They fall onto the bed. Matt finds Valerie lurking and pulls a gun on her – she’s at the Grill. He says don’t do anything stupid and she says she’s about to be exiled for stupid things. He says be gone by the count of three.
He counts and shoots then Enzo slaps the gun out of his hand. Matt goes. Enzo says – you’re welcome – and Valerie says she came to be alone. She asks what he wants. He says he wants her to tell him how to keep Julian out of Lily’s life. She smiles – she has an ally. Damon sets the tour bus on fire and Lily tells Damon where to find Elena’s coffin. He says he’s moving back to Mystic Falls. She says she’ll ask the family about it. He says she can’t control her heretics. She says he can’t even keep a box safe and says his desire to keep Elena physically present will only put her in more danger.
She says he’s too scared to find out who he is without Elena. He says he wants one more thing. Damon writes down a message to Elena. He’s in his wine cellar and has pulled out a vintage bottle. He talks about how bottles laid there aging while he waited for Katherine and time stood still. He says he hid the bottle and walked away and says that’s why he now drinks bourbon. He drinks the bottle now. Damon says he doesn’t know who he is without her and says time stands still. He asks who is Damon without Elena. Bonnie chants to try and rise Jo.
He says he’s a selfish friend. A jealous brother. Stefan lies in bed spooning Caroline. Lily looks at sleeping Oscar. Damon says – a horrible son. Matt and Elena load Elena’s coffin into the back of a truck. Matt drives it away. Damon says his heart is right there in the coffin with him. Alaric and Bonnie stare at Jo. Her eyes open. They are both stunned. Jo looks around.
