“The Young and the Restless” spoilers present some highlights of a Ray Wise interview and what is implied for future Ian Ward storylines. Y&R writers surprised fans with the return of Ian Ward (Ray Wise) who they thought they had seen the last of when he was carted off to prison. Even more surprising was that he is working with Adam Newman – Gabriel Bingham (Justin Hartley) in some sort of Paragon Project cyber-plot that may lead to Victor Newman’s (Eric Braeden) downfall. Ian Ward may end up controlling Newman Enterprises and Jabot before he is through.
In an interview with TV Insider, Ray Wise explained that he jumped at the chance to bring Ian back to The Young and the Restless. Asked why he – one of the busiest and most respected character actors in the entertainment industry would return to daytime television – Ray explained that Y&R gave him a great character with great lines and he couldn’t pass up the opportunity to return to television’s number one soap opera. Ray wasn’t completely surprised to get the call from TPTB asking him to reprise his role. During his Daytime Emmy acceptance speech he said, “I’m in jail, but I sure would love to get out!”
Ray reflected on his body of television work – and the fact that his two seasons as the embattled Leland Palmer on “Twin Peaks” never yielded an Emmy nomination. Ray described winning a Daytime Emmy for his role as Ian Ward on “The Young and the Restless” was a type of poetic justice. “But here I am with Ian Ward. He’s doing it for me and I couldn’t be happier. I finally got the statuette and, I promise you, it’s not going to tarnish!”
But how in the world did Ian Ward get out of jail? His felonies include rape, blackmail, drugging and kidnapping which ended with Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) married to the man she once thought of as a father. But – according to Ray – there is a perfectly good explanation planned out that will legitimately explains all.
Describing Ian Ward as the ultimate confidence man – with an obvious obsession for Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) – the actor promises that all of Genoa City will be in turmoil and fans will be utterly surprised by the monumental scope of the havoc Ian and Adam will wreak. But Adam isn’t the only one in Genoa City that Ian will have a partnership. There will be someone in town who captivates his attention, someone of the female persuasion with whom he will have a liaison. Imagine Ian Ward with a girlfriend – who will it be?
At the end of the day, Ray Wise said that you need to be able to work on all levels on daytime television. “When the day is done, you have a great sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. It’s something to really be proud of.” Come back to CDL for all you The Young and the Restless spoilers and news!
