Tonight on CBS Zoo continues with an all new Tuesday August 4, season 1 episode 6 called, “This Is What It Sounds Like,” and we have your weekly recap below! On tonight’s episode, Abraham comes to the rescue of Mitch and Chloe after they are kidnapped by a local drug lord while searching for a solution to the bat problem in Rio de Janiero.
On the last episode, Jackson, Jamie and Agent Shaffer searched for a chemist in Alabama who had evidence of Reiden Global’s role in the growing animal problem. Meanwhile, Chloe, Mitch and Abraham came up against a ruthless drug lord after they fly to Rio de Janeiro in an attempt to delay the local government’s plan for a massive bat extermination. Meanwhile, Jamie, Jackson and Agent Shaffer team up to track down escaped death-row inmate Evan Lee Hartley, who has stolen evidence against Reiden Global.”

#ZooCBS begins in Rio. Chloe tells the drug dealer to let her explain – he thinks she’s Interpol but she says the antenna was just to get rid of the bats. He thinks Mitch is DEA who says he’s a veterinary pathologists. He says all he knows about the drug war is that drugs won and says good for him. Abraham shows up looking for Gabriela and she says they’re about to drop the chemical. He says Chloe and Mitch were taken by Silva. She says he controls most of the ghettos.
Abe says he’s dealt with men like him before and knows it won’t end well. She calls over a uniformed guy and he tells them where they were taken. They agree to send a squad then all the power goes out. Gabriela says the bats must have hit the transformer. They hear a plane and she says they’re dropping the Endrin and it should work almost immediately. They see the chemical pour down on the bats. She asks if that’s what it’s supposed to do.
In Mobile, Shafer and Jackson find Jamie at the crash site. She says Leo gave her the mother cell but then they were crashed into. Leo is dead. She says something rammed them then Evan Lee Hartley was there and took the mother cell. Shafer says they’ll deal with it. Jamie says this won’t be all right and he says he’ll call the Marshal’s office. Jackson sits with her and says it’s not her fault and she says Evan has the cell and they have no idea what he’ll do with it.
In Paris, a woman comes home with her groceries and there’s a brown bear in her house. It follows her into the kitchen. In Rio, they take Chloe and Mitch to an apartment in the ghetto. Silva shows them mice and says they’re not running anymore. Mitch says things are working down the food chain. He says the bats are attacking tech and says they still have to eat and they eat street mice. The mice are hiding with them to avoid the bats.
Chloe says the Endrin isn’t working and Chloe tells Silva they need to talk with the authorities but he says he is the authority there and he takes care of the problems. Mitch says they’re trying to help and they were trying to get rid of the bats for them. Chloe says they need the antenna but Silva says he’ll lose money if they take it. He shoots a rat and then threatens them and walks out. They lock them in. Chloe says Silva said if they don’t find an answer, he’ll kill them.
The woman in Paris turns on the TV then notices her back door is open. She closes it and pours some wine. She opens the fridge and gets out a snack. She turns and screams as the bear stands on its hind feet and growls at her. Chloe tells Mitch that Silva is coming back and will kill them. He says it was a bad idea stealing Don Corleone’s antenna. Silva comes in and Mitch says they can’t do anything. Chloe says they need to build an EMP and Silva asks what they need.
He says an old PC, copper wire, steel rod, a speaker and some car batteries plus a soldering iron. Chloe asks if they want them to fix it. He says Flavio will get them the supplies and will watch them. He locks them back in and leaves. Chloe says they need to stay alive long enough for Abe to find them. Jamie tells Jackson that Evan’s eyes were really strange. Jackson asks Shafer if he has a recent photo of Evan then says look at his eyes – his pupil is blown like the animals – like he has a defiant pupil.
Shafer says he may can help Jamie remember more. Evan goes to an eye doctor and closes the door then locks it and flips the closed sign. The doc asks what he can do for him. Shafer puts Jamie into light hypnosis to get back her memories. He takes her back to the accident. She says she was hanging upside down in her seat. She says her chest hurt from the seatbelt.
She says the side mirror was broken and hanging. She says Evan crouched down and reached across her to get the mother cell. She says he walked around front and then she saw Leo. Shafer asks if she could see Evan Lee and she says he got into a green truck and he just drove away. They ask her about the license plate and Shafer says to relax and try. He says the plates start with three letters. She says KLL. Shafer says she did great and says he’s going to run the plates.
Jackson tells her they’re going to find him. We see Evan at the eye doctor with the mother cell. He wants Dr Swinney to take a sample from his optic nerve – four inches into his head and Evan brought a huge needle to take the sample. Evan says to do it or he’ll kill him. The woman in Paris is alive but wounded. She crawls into the pantry and closes the door.
She watches the bear eat and roam her kitchen. She sees her phone on the counter. The bear roars and she tries to brace the door. The bear stands and turns over the fridge with a crash. She cowers in fear. In Rio, Flavio’s guys bring the supplies then Abe is there and grabs the guy by the throat. He says Silva has them and Abe says to take him to Silva. Mitch and Chloe work on the device.
Mitch says two weeks ago his idea of danger was getting stuck in traffic. Chloe says they’re just buying time and says to keep working. He says once Silva pushes the button and expects bats to go… then he stops and says he’s looking at it backwards. He says they don’t need a carrot but a stick to chase them out. He says he had a hot professor in college that had a thing about bats.
He says they need a device to put out a continual sound frequency. Flavio says one hour. They keep working. The guy takes Abe to a shop where there are tons of bats. The guy says he won’t take him to Silva. Abe says he’ll shoot him and the guy says he knows Silva will kill him but doesn’t think he will. Other men have guns on Abe.
Evan works on the mother cell with a Dremel tool with a bandaged eye. The phone rings and he tells him to answer. Evan is mixing his eye fluid with something from the mother cell. He plays with a scientific tool. Swinney tells his patient not to come in. Evan then tells Swinney to put the fluid back in and has a mix of his ocular fluid and some mother cell components.
Just as Abe starts to fight off Silva’s men, the bats go nuts. Abe takes them all down except the original guy and says to take him to Silva. Jackson tries to call Chloe but gets voice mail. Jamie says she went to try and find Evan. She posted a message about how a guy killed her dog then drove off in a truck and gives the partial plate asking for help. Jackson is working on a study of the animal attack locations.
He says maybe his father was right and if they can’t stop it, the whole world will go to hell. Jamie gets a ping on her post and they head out. She spots Shafer and then tells him they found Evan. They head out and pull up at the eye doctor. Shafer tells them to go back to the hotel. They say no so he says to at least stay back. They look around at the businesses and then Jackson spots the eye doctor.
Evan screams as the doctor puts the fluid back in. Jackson bursts in and tries to talk to Evan. He asks why he thinks it will cure him. Evan says his father did this to him then he goes limp. Jackson says he’s dead. Jamie says at least they have the mother cell. Shafer tells them to go while he calls this in to the field office.
In Paris, the woman tries to get her phone when the bear is looking away. She nabs it then hides but the bear starts tearing apart the door. Chloe and Mitch worry that the oscillator won’t work. Chloe tells him he needs to have hope and says it’s a defense mechanism. Mitch says he used to be a big deal but says ego it like a hot GF – a lot of maintenance.
He says he published a study that wasn’t quite ready and got his ass kicked. He says he’s been dead for three years but today will just make it official. She says he’s talking about his daughter and says she knows about Clementine and how she was diagnoses three years ago. She says men who hide things become ugly and says she read his file. Mitch says it wasn’t so bad at first.
He says she got clumsy but then started having seizures. He says many kids with that syndrome lose their eyesight and their personalities change. He says she’s just dying. He says his baby mama married a decent guy when Clem was two and he decided to let them be a family. He says when Clementine got sick he started beating down the doors of every research hospital until the baby mama made him stop.
He says she thought he was making Clem’s time she had left miserable. He says he doesn’t want Clem to think he’s reaching out now because of pity. Chloe takes his hand and says in France they say – nothing weighs more than a secret – and says he should talk to Clementine. Flavio gets a call from Silva and says Fechado. She says it must have worked.
Abe has Silva at gunpoint and he says if the machine his friends made had worked, it would not have come to this. Abe says their business is over and Silva tells abe not to come back to Rio. He walks away from him. Silva then brutally beats the guy who brought Abe to him but then Abe comes back and beats down Silva. The oscillator starts up and Abe checks it out. Dogs start barking.
Chloe and Mitch are out of the apartment and Mitch says the dogs are reacting to the frequency. The bats are all flying away and he says it worked. Shafer comes to see Jamie later and finds her in a towel. She says Jackson is in the coffee shop. He asks if she has the evidence to take down Reiden and she says yes. He says they should celebrate. Shafer flirts and she kisses him.
When she goes to dry her hair, he starts tossing the hotel room. Jackson calls Chloe and leaves a message. He sees the news about a murder suicide at the eye doctor. He goes running back upstairs while dialing his phone. He waits for the elevator. Chloe comes to answer the phone and finds Shafer at the mini bar. He tells her Shafer killed the optometrist and she says she’s with him right now.
She says maybe they can meet for dinner. Shafer takes her phone and ends the call. He says he doesn’t want to hurt her and says to give him the mother cell now. Jackson sees Shafer leaving the room and chases him. Shafer fires at him but Jackson kicks him and they grapple. Jamie tries to free herself from where he tied her with a lamp cord.
Jackson asks Shafer if Reiden paid him off. Jamie is there and gets the gun Shafer dropped and shoots him to save Jackson. The police are at the Paris house and tell the woman she’s safe now. They tell her that she’s safe now. She stands and sees the bear lying on her kitchen floor. They escort her out. The vet says the bear is hibernating even though it’s summer.
Mitch calls and Justin if he can talk to Clementine. He takes the phone to her. Clem takes it and says hi. He says he never does this but wanted to check in with her and asks what’s new. She says Henry got hit by a car but he’s okay now. He says maybe he should come see her soon and she says sure, maybe. He says he’d like to see her and she says okay. She says she has to go to the doctor.
He tries to say something else but she ends the call. He orders a double and says to put it on Chloe’s tab. He goes over to Abe and Chloe and she asks about Clem. He says it’s all good then asks what’s next and says he’s feeling cocky after beating the bat plague. Jackson and Jamie show up to meet them and Abe asks who beat on him. Jamie shows Chloe the mother cell and Mitch asks what the hell that is.
