Blake Shelton’s video about dealing with his Miranda Lambert divorce – ‘Came Here To Forget’ could spell the end of his relationship with Gwen Stefani. Is the song evidence that Blake isn’t over Miranda Lambert yet?
The video for Blake’s new single is all about two strangers drowning the memory of former lovers in a bottle. The first line of the song is pretty telling — “You’re getting over him and I’m getting over her. The eyes have it made, ain’t gotta say a word.”
Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton shocked the world with the announcement that the couple had quietly ended their four year marriage last July. Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale ended their 13-year marriage in August 2015, just weeks after Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert jointly announced their split. In November Blake and Gwen Stefani went public with their romance.
In the middle of all this Blake managed to choose and record the breakup/hookup song. In addition, Blake filmed a sexy black-and-white video about drinkin’ and forgettin’ partners.
Blake didn’t write the song, that honor goes to the combined talents of Deric Ruttan and Craig Wiseman. But in a previous interview before the single’s release Blake did say that ‘Came Here to Forget’ was one of the most personal songs he has ever recorded.
What about this song could upset Gwen Stefani? Well, it’s really not about a long term relationship. It’s about two random people meeting at a bar, drinking and hooking up to forget former lovers. But the lyrics indicate that neither person is over the one they loved and lost.
Check out this verse – “Go ahead and check your phone, like I’ve been checking mine. Nobody’s ex texting for a rewind. Looks like it’s just me and you. Fall in love just enough to get us through what we’re getting through. Is that the kind of thing you want to hear your boyfriend singing about you?”
Maybe Blake Shelton was just working through the pain of his divorce from Miranda Lambert when he chose to record ‘Came Here to Forget.’ Maybe a song is just a song, but Blake did say it was quite possibly THE most personal song he ever recorded.
Is Blake really over Miranda or did the megastar move on too quickly? Is Gwen Stefani going to get her heart broken again?
