Trailer Park Boys star Michael Smith [Bubbles] was released on $20,000 bail after being arrested for domestic battery. The actor was taken into custody by Los Angeles Police on Friday, March 1.
TMZ sources at The Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood report that the actor engaged in a shouting match with a female in the lavatories near the pool at the hotel.
The insiders revealed that it sound as if the woman and Michael were arguing over a person the actor had been texting.
One of the people at the hotel said that a woman was heard screaming, “You’re choking me.” When onlookers went to off assistance they saw Michael had pinned the woman against a bathroom wall. That’s when the police were called for assistance.
Michael Smith was taken to the police station and charged with misdemeanor domestic battery and then released few hours later. A representative for the Trailer Park Boys star was asked for comment but there was no response yet.
A spokesperson from the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed with People that officers had responded to a domestic battery call at the Roosevelt Hotel. People reports that Michael was taken into custody at approximately 1:15 a.m. and was released on $20,000 bail just past 5 a.m. The actor is scheduled to appear in court on April 29. No further details were provided.
The Canadian actor portrays the character Bubbles on the Netflix series Trailer Park Boys. The incident involving the unknown woman took place just a few days after Trailer Park Boys 10th season premiered on Netflix.
Before turning to comedy professionally Michael Smith played guitar in the band Sandbox. The band signed a record deal with EMI Canada and recorded two albums, Bionic and A Murder in the Glee Club. Michael has appeared in several bands’ music videos including The Tragically Hip and Rush.
In 1999 Michael was hired as a sound mixer for the original Trailer Park Boys black-and-white movie. Director Mike Clattenburg discovered Michael doing in the Bubbles character on day on the set and decided to write him into the upcoming television series.
In 2010 Michael Smith, along with co-stars Robb Wells [Ricky] and John Paul Tremblay [Julian], began writing and producing in addition to starring in the irreverent comedy.
