It looks like Calvin Harris and Taylor Swift’s already complicated break-up is about to get a whole lot messier. There’s a new report that says the ex-couple’s relationship broke down over the British chart topper’s new massive hit, “This Is What You Came For,” which Swift allegedly co-wrote but didn’t take any credit for.
Instead, Taylor Swift’s squad are saying that Calvin Harris “disrespected” his former girlfriend by not only taking credit for the song, but completely dismissing her when he was asked back in April if there was ever a chance that he would collaborate with the singer.
According to TMZ, Taylor not only wrote the song, but she sat down at a piano and did a demo on her iPhone, which she went to Calvin. He allegedly “loved” it but the two agreed at the time to keep Taylor’s work a secret as their relationship would definitely overshadow the song.
Instead, being the business savvy artist that she is, Taylor kept the publishing rights to the song but used the pseudonym Nils Sjoberg on the credits. Calvin Harris released the song with Rihanna on the vocals in late April and it’s been a massive worldwide hit on the charts ever since.
But the straw the apparently broke the camel’s back is when Calvin sat down for an interview with Ryan Seacrest on his talk show. When he was asked by Ryan if he would ever consider doing a collaboration with Taylor at the time, the Scottish-born DJ responded with, “You know we haven’t even spoken about it. I can’t see it happening though.”
Sources are now saying that Taylor was left completely hurt by the comments and that Calvin took things “too far.”
If that weren’t enough, this isn’t the first time Calvin hasn’t given credit where credit is due. He once wrote a song with ex-girlfriend Rita Ora but after they broke up, he “yanked” her rights to perform it.
Fast-forward less than two-months later and Taylor and Calvin have not only broken up, but the singer has already moved on with a new boyfriend, British actor Tom Hiddleston. Calvin has reportedly been left “shocked” over how quickly Taylor has moved on while many critics think he should be quietly thanking her for giving him the smash hit of the summer.
What do you think, CDL readers? Is Calvin Harris really being the one that is disrespectful here?
