Celine Dion is devastated that husband René Angélil is nearing the end of his battle with throat cancer. Is what Celine fears the most breaking the news to the couple’s three sons? René has been courageously fighting cancer for 17 years, and insiders revealed to Star that this may have been the entertainment mogul’s last Christmas.
A close family friend sadly divulged that a heartbroken Celine was focused only on creating magical Christmas memories rather than the fact that René is dying.
Reportedly Angélil can no longer speak nor hear and has a feeding tube. No one is quite certain if Celine and René’s three children, René-Charles, 14, and five-year-old twins Eddy and Nelson, know just how gravely ill their father is – and friends report that Celine is petrified to tell the boys that René may not live much longer.
The throat cancer diagnosis was made in 1998, approximately four years after René Angélil and Celine Dion married in a lavish ceremony at Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal, Quebec. Angélil underwent 38 torturous radiation treatments. The cancer returned in 2014 – at which time medical specialists reportedly told Celine and René that there were no further treatment options.
The Grammy Award-winning songstress has taken leave from her Caesar’s Palace performances in order to be by René’s side. Sources close to the family divulged that Celine is surrounding a dying René with “love and light until the end.”
Celine is trying to smile and be happy to hide the truth from René-Charles, Eddy and Nelson. Those in the know say Celine is petrified of life without René – the man who launched her career when the French-Canadian singer was only 12-years-old.
As previously reported, René wishes to die in Celine’s arms – and the “My Heart Will Go On” singer plans to honor that request. But the most heartbreaking thing seems to be how Celine Dion will break the horrible news to the couple’s young children that René Angélil is closer to the end than the boys realize.
