Tonight on Lifetime Abby Lee Miller’s Dance Moms continues with an all new Tuesday April 19 season 6 episode 16 called, “Mack Z vs. Abby Lee,” and we have your weekly recap below. On tonight’s episode, it’s hip-hop week, but not everyone is invited. Later, Abby gives solos to Brynn and JoJo.

On tonight’s episode as per the Lifetime synopsis, “It’s hip-hop week, but not everyone is invited. Later, Abby gives solos to Brynn and JoJo, but Mackenzie pushes back when she’s assigned to perform a safe acrobatic routine instead of a hip-hop dance; and Abby flees the studio at a crucial moment.”

#DanceMoms starts at ALDC LA with Jill talking about how Abby has not been showing up on time. Ashlee says losing Maddie and Mackenzie has hit Abby hard. We see a flashback to the announcement. Jill says Abby won’t admit it, but is mad they’re leaving.
She’s using her #1 student Maddie and Melissa her right hand. Jill wonders if Abby will lash out at them until they leave. Abby talks about how the group number only got 2nd last week. She says last week they didn’t win at all. Abby says maybe it’s their time.
Abby says they can do better. Now pyramid. At the bottom is JoJo because Abby says she was distracted. Jessa says she did good. Then Abby moves her to the top and smiles. Jessa was worried when she took it off the wall, she was going to throw it on the floor.
Jessa says Abby knows with Maddie leaving, she needs JoJo. Brynn is next who didn’t dance last week. Mackenzie is next and Abby says she’s been raising her for years but she needs to dig deeper like in her duet. Next is Nia and Abby says she saw emotion in the duet.
She says she did a great job. Next up is Kendall, Maddie and Kalani. She says Maddie and Kalani were the big winners with their duet. Then Maddie and Kendall came in 2nd and she says that was a great duet number. This weekend is Xpressions Dance.
JoJo gets a hip hop solo called Million Dollar Baby. Brynn gets a solo that’s also hip hop and is called Freak. Ashlee says Brynn needs to show she can do other than contemporary and lyrical. The last solo goes to Mackenzie. Abby says it’s a hoe down gymnastic routine.
The moms says she should let her do hip hop too. Mackenzie whines and says she always does gymnastics. Abby says then no solo. The moms whine and tell her she only has a few weeks left, she should get to do hip hop because she never has before.
Abby is upset and says it was dumb for Mackenzie to push for hip hop when she has things to work on with Abby. Then Abby storms out and slams the door into her office. Gia starts group. Holly says Abby’s ego is hurt and is being passive aggressive.
Holly says Abby knows that Mackenzie wants a hip hop solo and that’s why she gave one to everyone but her. The group routine, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, rehearsal starts. Jessa says that sounds inspired by Abby’s problems including her legal issues and losing Melissa’s girls.
Jessa tells the other moms that Abby is falling apart and Kira says she’s doing this to herself. Ashlee says it’s a shame if Mackenzie doesn’t get to do hip hop before she leaves. Holly tells Melissa to push for it but Melissa says she’s tired.
Holly says be tired after you leave. She says do what’s right and don’t settle back and enable Abby’s bad behavior. Melissa sits and listens to all of this and Jill says she’s right. Melissa then decides to go and speak to Abby since she thinks Mackenzie is the best hiphopper on the team.
Abby slams the door in face and makes the boom mic guy pull the mic out. Then Abby lowers the window shade and Melissa says that woman is crazy and she’s done. The moms wonder where Abby is the next day and they think she’s hiding in the office.
Jill calls this one of Abby’s tantrums. Guy comes in with Rumer and Olga to work on solos. Ashlee asks Melissa why wouldn’t Abby let her have her way after all these years. Melissa says she has no ideas. Ashlee goes to see Abby and asks about the solos.
A producer speaks up and says Abby said it was fine and they can do what they want. Abby snaps and screams and says the moms do not run her business and Mackenzie can’t do hip hop. Abby leaves out the back and the moms go out.
They surround her car and ask her to come back in and finish her job. She honks at them and drives off. Abby then calls and talks to Holly and says if you run a studio, you do what’s good for the studio. She says they tried to overrule her and do what they damn well please.
Abby says she’s going to the beach and they can do what they want. We see Abby toasting with a drink later. Holly tells the moms that she said Mackenzie can do hip hop, she doesn’t care since they are trying to take over her studio.
The moms go back inside and Gia says it’s all hip hop solos and says they are all the same age and style of solos so they’ve never done that before. They’ll all be head to head. Mackenzie’s solos is Bully while Brynn’s is called Freak and JoJo is Million Dollar Baby.
The moms let them work with the hip hop specialists. Brynn goes first with hers. Ashlee says Brynn has never done a hip hop solo but was great in the Maddy B video. Mackenzie then does her hip hop rehearsal. Melissa says she has to win or Abby won’t let her forget it.
Ashlee says this is all started to go downhill when Melissa announced she was leaving and Abby resents losing Maddie. Holly says Abby is breaking down because they pushed back. Ashlee says she wants people there to support her.
Jill rants and says they left their other kids and families to come to LA and says Abby needs to recognize that. She says they have followed her around for year. Jill thinks Ashlee needs to choose a side and says they’re trying to include her but she’s siding with Abby.
Jill says Abby has 20 federal indictments and they’re still with her. Ashlee says they’ve known Abby long enough and just have to accept her like it is. Jill says she puts up with Abby’s crap and Jessa says she’s glad Abby left so there’s less crap.
The moms come to watch the hip hop solo rehearsals. JoJo is first. Mackenzie says she’s nervous to compete against Brynn and JoJo in hip hop. Mackenzie goes last but then freaks because she doesn’t know her routine and tells Melissa she’s going to make a fool of herself.
She leaves and starts crying and Holly follows her out to talk to her. Mackenzie cries and tells her she’s too stressed right now. Holly says Abby hasn’t seen one dance this week but thank heavens for Gianna.
The moms talk about how they like that all three are doing hip hop. JoJo rehearses again and Jessa says it’s her favorite and best genre but it’s still pressure her going up against Brynn since she wants JoJo to be her go-to girl.
Ashlee wonders if Mackenzie feels the pressure since it may be her last solo there and wonders why Abby isn’t checked in. Abby shows up in rollers with a take out cup and looks glum. Jill thinks she looks foolish.
Abby watches group and gives them lots of notes. She yells at Maddie a lot. Then Abby says it’s horrendous and says just take a gun and shoot Gianna’s choreography in the foot. Then Abby says they need the room for privates and they have to leave.
Holly says if they lose again this week it will be no one’s fault but Abby.s They arrive to the dance competition to screaming fans and Holly wonders if Abby will show up. They saw her on the plane but not on the van. She shows up dressed all hip hop.
She chants “moms better have my money” and calls herself Swaggy Lee. Jill thinks she’s making a mockery of the kids’ hard work. Holly asks if she’s inspired by the soloists or making fun of the moms. Abby says she loves hip hop.
Jessa thinks Ashlee has dressed Brynn up to look like JoJo and remarks on it. Jessa thinks JoJo has star quality and Brynn does not. Abby asks who will be the prize fighter in the three hip hop numbers. Abby asks who will win it?
The solos are up first. The kids do their good luck ritual and JoJo is first up. JoJo says Abby knows she was born to be a hip hop star. She takes the stage and Abby cheers for her. It’s a cool boxing routine. It’s really cool and Kendall hugs her and says it was good.
Ashlee thinks it was just okay and that Brynn will blow her out of the water and hopes Abby will make her daughter a star. Brynn does Freak and Abby cheers for her when she’s done. Nia tells Mackenzie she’ll do great but she’s still nervous.
Mackenzie goes last. Melissa hopes she does well and shows the world how versatile she is. Melissa cheers loudly for her. Mackenzie thinks she killed it and hopes for first place. Holly says she likes that they had hip hop week.
Jessa says it looked like JoJo danced then danced again. Jill says Brynn isn’t the next Maddie, she’s the next JoJo. Ashlee says Jessa is upset because JoJo wasn’t brought in to be the next Maddie and Brynn was. Ashlee says her daughter’s solo had more choreography.
That starts an argument and Jessa says her kid has no character and Ashlee is stupid. Ashlee is upset that the other moms are sitting their smirking and saying nothing. Abby comes in and asks what’s the problem. Jill says Ashlee is upset with Jessa.
Then Jill says Ashlee is a miserable bitch and needs to learn to take criticism. Ashlee tells Abby that the attacks from Jessa on Brynn are just too much. Abby asks why she cares and says let it go. Now it’s time to get ready for group.
Abby tells them Maddie is leaving in two weeks and she’s usually the featured performer. She asks who will step up in her place once she’s gone. Kendall says Abby has been checked out and says their leader isn’t there teaching them to be a leader.
They take the stage for the group number. It’s really cool. Jill says it was one of their favorite group routines they’ve ever done and says it was really good. Now it’s awards time. Solos are up first. JoJo takes 5th place and Jessa just hopes Brynn doesn’t place above her.
Brynn takes 4th place and Jessa is annoyed. Mackenzie takes 1st place and Melissa is thrilled. She starts crying – she was so worried that she wouldn’t place. Mackenzie says she proved Abby wrong about her and hip hop.
Now it’s group awards. Jill says their days with Maddie and Mackenzie are numbered and hopes they win this. They take 1st place and Abby is thrilled. Holly says the losing streak is over and the girls can do anything and do it well and can win.
Abby says the group was great and says she wanted more body moves in Mackenzie’s number. Jill says it was hip hop, just give it to her, she won. Abby says hmmm and walks off. Melissa says they only have two weeks left and she doesn’t know why Abby is being so hard on Mackenzie.
Jill says once Melissa leaves, they can change things if they all stick together. Ashlee speaks up and says it was hypocritical that none of them said anything when Jessa went after her kid. Holly says Ashlee was putting her kid on a pedestal above everyone else’s.
Jessa says they’re hypocrites and goes off on Jessa. Then Jessa talks about Brynn being plain and then Holly cracks a joke about what Jessa was saying and Ashlee says she’s done. The other moms join in laughing as she walks out. Ashlee says she hates Jessa.
