Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers reveal that Joseph Mascolo, portrayer of the great Stefano DiMera, has passed away at the age of 87. Mascolo’s failing health prompted his departure from the role he began playing in 1982. Stefano was arguably DOOL’s most famous character and he remains crucial part of the current storylines at Days.
Losing Stefano was a difficult blow, but Days of Our Lives fans enjoyed the ghostly appearances Mascolo made following his character’s death. Now that Mascolo himself is gone, DOOL viewers are truly in mourning. This loss is tough to accept, but we can all appreciate the influence Mascolo had on the soap world.
Stefano was a complex and beloved villain for many years. Days will never let Stefano or Mascolo’s memory fade away. Mascolo was responsible for bringing this layered character to life and we’re grateful for his contribution to the NBC soap. Stefano was a force to be reckoned with and that was all thanks to Mascolo’s powerful delivery.
Soap Opera Digest is reporting that Ken Corday, the executive producer at Days of Our Lives, made a statement about Mascolo’s passing. “The smile on Joe’s face is something we’d all come to find comfort in, and he will be sorely missed,” Corday said. “His larger than life presence, kind heart, and unwavering positivity has impacted us all for decades, and will live on in the memories of his many fans.”
Mascolo faced a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s before his death on December 8. In addition to his role as Stefano on Days, Mascolo played Nicholas Van Buren on General Hospital and Massimo Marone on The Bold and the Beautiful. However, Mascolo will be best remembered for his work as the legendary Stefano DiMera.
