Demi Lovato is lashing out once again, but this time it has nothing to do with the media headlines or the paparazzi. Instead, the chart topper is calling out her fans and their art of the singer, saying it often misrepresents her body in reality. In fact, Demi went as far as criticizing one fan for drawing her in a very unrealistic way.
According to the Huffington Post, Romanian fan Vladimir Serbanescu created an image of Demi as a mermaid and shared it on his Instagram account. The singer not only noticed the artwork, but she also commented on it with, “Is that how my boobs should look? It’s gorgeous but that’s not my body.”
Sure enough, Vladimir responded to Demi’s comments by stating, “If i make your waist slimmer and your boobs bigger to accentuate the fact that i drew you as a mermaid, a mythological creature, doesn’t mean I say that you should look like that or all girls should look like that. That’s how I imagine mermaids. I worked a lot on that drawing and I was proud of it, but not anymore.”
While there’s no doubt that Demi Lovato has often struggled with her body image after years of bulimia and drug use, she’s finally accepted who she is, down to each and every curve on her body. It’s taken her years to love her body, yet the singer has become so self-conscious about her appearance that she is blasting artists on Instagram and their ‘unrealistic’ fan-art of her body.
Demi did nothing more than totally crush and disappoint a fan who no doubt worked hard creating his piece of art just for the singer to publicly shame him. Sure, Demi wants to promote a positive body image to her fans, but in this case the artist had good intentions in creating Demi as nothing more than a mythical creature on paper. Demi could have easily saved her criticism for a magazine that deliberately photoshops her body rather than dish it out on a fan with good intentions.
