New General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that the person responsible for bombing Julian’s car is surprising and not who you think wants him dead. It’s Julian Jerome (William deVry) himself. Why would Julian put his own life at risk? He wouldn’t. But the plan was never for him to be harmed.
The type of car bomb used is the first hint that it was never intended to kill Julian. When you see car bombs on TV shows and the movies, they’re the type that go off when the car is cranked. That way they take out everyone in the car and the assassination goal is accomplished.
In the case of the bomb that killed Morgan Corinthos (Bryan Craig), the bomb was set to go off when the driver shifted his weight off the seat. With this design, Julian knew he was safe from the bomb. The explosion would go off, it would look like an attempt on his life but he would be safe.
Julian’s driver Pete would have been the one blown to bits if it had gone off like he wanted. Since Pete was guarding Julian’s car outside the Floating Rib and acting as bodyguard, it seems strange that he would leave the car unattended. But if Julian gave him an order to do something, he would.
Julian might have called and told him to run a quick errand. Or another of Julian’s henchmen could have called and distracted Pete from the car. That gave the person planting the bomb the opportunity to get it into place. From there, it was all about timing.
The original plan was that Julian and Pete would drive to his home and then instead of Pete getting out to open Juian’s door as usual, Julian would just tell Pete that he’d get his own door and he could tell Pete to park the car. Julian would get out and walk a safe distance from the blast.
Pete would park the car, get out and then boom. Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) and Jason Morgan (Billy Miller) both know that the blast was designed to incinerate the car and the occupants, but was not designed to do a huge boom that would take out a wider radius. It was controlled.
That was intentional so that Julian could be near enough, having just gotten out of the car, to pretend to be shocked and traumatized, but not so close as to be harmed. Pete would have been dead meat, though. This would leave a trail pointing back to Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard).
Julian knew Sonny was coming for him since Sonny told him he was going to put him down. Then Julian could have had his men keeping an eye on the local mob network so he would know when Sonny officially took a hit out on him. Julian planned his own hit to control the outcome.
Now everyone thinks Sonny had the bomb planted. Morgan’s death was not part of the plan, but Julian doesn’t care. As for Pete, he had to be taken out for talking to Jason. Julian would have no problem having Pete shot to silence him since he was planning to blow him up anyway.
Julian then hired Curtis to follow the evidence trail as a failsafe to ensure the PCPD targeted Sonny as the mastermind behind the bombing. The problem is, Curtis is smarter than Julian. When Curtis revealed to Julian the twist that the investigation had taken, Julian balked.
When Curtis said the name “Oscar Jessup,” Julian had a strange reaction. Obviously, he knows the name. Oscar is someone Julian was working with to make sure the bombing went off without a hitch. Oscar is the piece of the puzzle that could lead Curtis and Jason back around to Julian.

Will Oscar turn up dead soon so that the investigations will stop heading off the track that Julian wants? Sonny will be arrested soon, but on the basis of the confession he makes at Morgan’s funeral, not because of firm evidence against him. GH spoilers reveal he’ll be arraigned on murder charges by the end of the month.
Other General Hospital spoilers reveal that Curtis and Jason will soon begin working together to find the culprit responsible for Morgan’s death. Julian won’t like this and will try and shut Curtis down, but he won’t stop. He’s still a cop at heart. Julian’s time is running out before he’s exposed.
