Fresh General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that the mystery of Nelle Hayes (Chloe Lanier) may be solved by looking at the trail of clues that GH writers have left for viewers. They have shown Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) might be Nelle’s mom – if we follow the breadcrumbs left starting a year ago.
We first saw Chloe Lanier on the 52nd-anniversary episode as Patricia Spencer, Luke and Bobbie’s sister. That could have sparked the initial idea to bring her back as a Spencer. Laura Wright played Lena Eckert and there was great mother-daughter chemistry between Wright and Lanier.
Lanier mentioned in an interview that she had talked to GH showrunners about coming back as a recurring character based on how well she played off of Laura Wright and they writers worked it up. Then let’s consider this. Nelle was a perfect match to be a kidney donor for Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy).
There are random matches for donors, but GH showrunners likely did NOT bring in someone random and instead created a more complicated plot. Nelle clearly has an agenda when it comes to Carly and looks angry and sketchy when no one is looking.
When Nina Clay (Michelle Stafford) was talking to Nelle about Carly and Michael Quartermaine (Chad Duell), she said, “You’re such a good mom…” Nelle looked uncomfortable and annoyed. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this irritated look from Nelle.
If Nelle is Carly’s kid, then obviously she hasn’t been a good mom to her. General Hospital spoilers from the soap mags hint Nelle makes a move on Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) soon. That seems outlandish, but things are aligning including Carly and Sonny bickering over his Julian revenge plan after the trial falls apart.
GH writers love to reuse plots. Ava Jerome (Maura West) has tampered with Morgan Corinthos’ (Bryan Craig) meds and last year, Morgan replaced Michael’s allergy meds to make him look erratic and ruin him keeping custody of baby Avery. It’s the same old thing done again without even waiting that long…
Nelle seeking revenge on Carly and seducing Sonny is like Carly messing with Bobbie and seducing Tony. Also, Sonny will snap and plan to kill Julian Jerome (William deVry) after he’s found not guilty. Carly will beg Sonny to break the cycle of violence and this weakens their marriage.
Plus, Morgan and Michael are spinning out and that could make both of them vulnerable to Nelle’s scheming. Nelle might mess with Sonny’s bipolar meds, drug him, or get him drunk (all have been done on GH) and sleep with him, setting it up for Carly to find them and wreck her marriage.
This could be Nelle’s plan whether or not she’s Carly’s daughter but far more interesting if she is Carly’s secret kid. So how could Carly have another kid? There are several options. Her age is somewhere around Morgan and Michael so here are a few ideas of how they could swing it…
- Nelle is a secret twin of Michael or Morgan’s and no one noticed the second kid popping out. GH loves secret twins out of nowhere even when it’s improbable or irrational.
- GH could finagle Carly’s history so she gave up Nelle for adoption before she came to Port Charles if Nelle is a bit older than she seems. (Math is hard, right?)
- Carly was institutionalized twice (at Ferncliff then Roselawn) and could have given birth there and gave it up for adoption or didn’t even know she gave birth.
- They could create a gap in Carly’s history that we never saw to give her time to hide a pregnancy and give away a kid. (History isn’t fixed, right?)
GH writers just changed Liz Webber’s (Rebecca Herbst) blood type to something rare when we know it was common – and added a twin for Carlos Rivera (Jeffrey Parise) no one knew about – they have shown they will mercilessly tamper with history and this could be another instance.
What do you think GH fans? Nelle wanting revenge for her kidney being sold does not explain her fixation specifically on Carly. It seems Nelle would be angrier at her own parents who sold it or the person that bought the kidney since it’s clear that Carly had no idea the kidney was black market.
But if Nelle learned that Carly was her bio-mom and that’s why she was a match for Josslyn, that would 100% explain why she’s gunning for Carly rather than being angry in general. We’ll see how it works out since more info about Nelle’s background is promised soon.
